can i use a 235/65R17 on a 2009 ford explorer?

17'' rims came on the lowest price model and tires were 245/65R17. You could get away with 235s in a winter/snow tire, but especially on an SUV like this, I suggest you not go lower than the 245, maybe go to a 255 or even a 265 instead. 265's worked well on my 1996.
I agree with Ed on this one. I had a Mountaineer and it handled much better with the wider tires. Just make sure the load range is correct.
