08 nitro. No heat

Asked by Bazz31 Nov 08, 2019 at 09:09 PM about the 2008 Dodge Nitro R/T 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have no heat in daughters nitro. Changed
thermostat and flushed cooler with boiling
water, CLR and an air compressor. No
change. Last resort pulled heater lines off
while vehicle running and no fluid pumping
through. So while running I blew in one heater
hose and fluid went through core. Like I
primed it. Great heat 50 Celsius at 3500 rpm.
Cools off at idle. Next step. Change water
pump. Heater core on amazon for $164. I
know dealer wanted $2000 for thermostat and
heater core replacement. That’s almost half
value of car.

Never did do the water pump for it is fine. Although I did replace the radiator cap which also helped by maintaining the pressure for the heat during idle.
