No crank No Start intermittent on 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4.0L

Asked by Craig Apr 09, 2020 at 06:36 PM about the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4WD Crew Cab

Question type: General

Every so often I try and start my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4.0L and I
get nothing. Everything works - radio, lights, horn, wipers,etc.. battery is
strong BUT no sound when I turn the key - no clicks, no cranking NOTHING
This is so frustrating - last time it did this was in about 8 months ago VERY
random. The tow truck driver dragged it onto a deck and when he dropped it
off at my house off the deck  it started like new!

Start with a wiring diagram, voltmeter and your ignition switch. Trace the entire starting circuit to find out why the starter isn't getting power.

Thanks Rick. I'll give it a try - if it was something in the circuit wouldn't it be continuous? This only happens extremely random. 8 months from the last time- before that about 3 months. Very weird

Wiring issues can be intermittent. Most often caused by bad terminal contact. Temp expansion and contraction can result in good contact one day and no contact another day.
