Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2009 Saturn Aura stopped working correctly... Now starts but shuts off after apx. 3 seconds.  Noticed tach does not register during the short run time, don't know if that means something.  Any help is appreciated.  Mike G.

No to gas pedal... it simply shuts off. I'm guessing it uses the tach or ECM to see that the car is running, when it doesn't see the tach it thinks the engine is not running and shuts down.... Yes, remote door locks all work. Parking lights flash once and then car starts as it should (for 3 seconds, then shuts off). Someone said Aura and Vues have Tech bulletins out on the remote start, but I haven't found any with this specific problem mentioned. I recently had a low battery, charged it up and the car was fine, but this may have been about the time the remote quit working. Some sources mention removing the ground from the battery, wait a few minutes then put it back on, saying it may reset the ECM. Going to give that a quick try shortly and see if that accomplishes something. I really hate to take it to the local Buick or Chev dealer so they can shotgun the problem. Thanks for the input!

Well i was questioning the door locks bc the theft deterrent module, instrument cluster, remote door lock reciever and hvac module all operate on pin 1 of the dlc.. if its shorted to power or ground the cluster wont get the info it needs for the tach to work neither will the theft deterrent module giving you your start stall but i could be way off

Sirkut Interrupted - I think you might be on to something. There seems to be several recalls that talk about removing one of the control modules, and installing an electrical shield and dielectrically grease. Records for my car indicate NHTSA Recalls have been done thru 7/21/2014 but just a very generic four or five word description of what each item was. Finally, I'm guessing the problem is likely one of the control modules not working properly.
