The Karma Revero GT’s story is an interesting one. It was born in 2012 as the Fisker Karma, a stylish electric sedan with a gasoline-powered range extender. After it was discontinued, the company was bought out. The new company revised the car, named it the Karma Revero, and re-released it in 2018. Three years in, the Revero becomes the Revero GT, with significant improvements in just about every area.
To start, every one of the Revero GT’s body panels has been redesigned and massaged. The iconic mustache grille gives way to something cleaner and more organic. The side panels are a bit more sculpted. And the roof makes a sleeker arc toward the trunk lid. In doing all this, Karma managed to shave 357 pounds from the car’s weight. Optional carbon-fiber wheels save a further 55 pounds.
Inside, Karma gave the Revero GT a brand-new dashboard and new seats, with leather and wood slathered everywhere. As before, the battery pack still runs through the center of the cabin, like a spine, so interior room for all four occupants is rather tight.
The Revero GT’s powertrain is all-new. Twin electric motors deliver 536 horsepower and 1,100 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. You’ll reach 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds, thanks to standard launch control. All-electric range improves significantly, from 33 to 61 miles, and Karma boasts fuel economy as high as 70 miles-per-gallon equivalent (MPGe). There’s also regenerative braking on board, which both helps replenish the new 28-kilowatt-hour battery and keeps wear off of the mechanical brakes. Last year’s 2.0-liter turbocharged on-board generator gives way to a more efficient 1.5-liter unit. When it’s engaged, the Revero GT achieves 26 combined mpg on premium fuel and 330 miles of total range. Recharging the car takes 6.25 hours with Level 2 equipment.
Features and technology for the Revero GT are what you’d expect for a luxury car: 21-inch wheels, active noise cancellation, 3D haptic-touch technology for the steering wheel buttons, a revised digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, and over-the-air software updates. Safety features include a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.
Karma’s significant efforts to re-engineer its car into the Revero GT have paid off. While it’s still not the killer app that the Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan are, it’s a unique, stylish and high-tech car in its own right.
