2008 Maserati GranTurismo Preview summaryImage

One of the world's premier sports cars, with an Italian mystique and pedigree all its own, the 2008 Maserati GranTurismo presents a shapely yet muscular exterior while borrowing styling cues from the past. The four-seat coupe accelerates smoothly and handles curves sharply, thanks to a design that positions the engine behind the front axle, which improves overall balance and provides precise control.

The GranTurismo sports an exterior created by Pininfarina, the Italian automotive designer, and from its large, oval grille to its curvy body and sculpted rear end, the GranTurismo exudes Italian style and visual excitement.

Inside, passengers are cushioned by Poltrona Frau leather sports seats with power adjustment in the front. Polished wood trim, hand-finished pockets, and ample storage areas make the GranTurismo both luxurious and functional. Standard features include an 11-speaker Bose Surround Sound audio system.

Some have noted that while Maserati has strived to provide ample interior space, the rear seat can feel cramped for tall adults, especially when it comes to head room. However, the good-sized trunk can carry two regular-sized golf bags or an exclusive set of five suitcases.

A 4.2-liter, 405-horsepower V8 engine powers the 2008 GranTurismo. The engine has been designed to provide peak performance where it's most needed, as well as smooth acceleration and quiet, throaty operation. The engine links to a new six-speed hydraulic automatic transmission with four modes -- normal, sport, manual, and ice, which makes shifting adjustments when driving on slick road surfaces.

I absolutely LOVE this car but do your research and make sure its right for you. This is a grand touring car. It looks more sporty than most grand touring cars but it is not a sports car. Is it fast? Its top end is very fast but lets be honest, youll probably never find out. Is it fast 0-60? Its quick but its not fast. Is it fast in the corners? Its quick and handles well in big, gentle, sweeping corning but its not a canyon carver. Is it roomy? I almost never have more than two people in any of my cars so it is plenty roomy for 99.5% of the driving I do. The truck is plenty big enough and if it doesnt fit in the truck then Ill put the extra stuff in the back seat. If you have the convertible then the truck gets really small but you can fits lots of stuff in the back seat. Its perfect for weekend getaways. Parts and dealer service is VERY expensive. Pretty much the same as a Ferrari. The cars seems to be pretty reliable though. If you buy one of these I strongly suggest that you find a very qualified independent shop for service and if you are handy with a wrench then do some of the easy stuff yourself. You can buy one of these for less than a Camry but you better have deep pockets if you know nothing about cars and take it to the dealer for every minor issue. This is a car for people that love cars and driving. It does not have all the bells and whistles and creature comforts of most modern cars that you can buy for well under 40grand. This is a car for someone who leaves the radio off so they can enjoy the soundtrack of the motor and exhaust. This car still gets a lot of attention and looks and compliments. People think I spent way more than I did for this car so if you care what other people think then youll love that. I drive it because it puts a smile on my face every single time Im in it. When I drive it to work I arrive at work in a good mood and no matter what kind of day I had at work Im smiling when I get home. For me that makes it worth the price I pay to maintain it..Nov 21, 2023
