The 2005 GMC Envoy XUV gets a few upgrades this year, including new, more comfortable seats, a CD/MP3 player, full-length side curtain airbags to go with the dual front bags, and interior wood accents in the upscale SLT trim. Not your average mid-size SUV that offers both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, what makes the Envoy XUV unique is its ability to change from a five-seater SUV to a pickup truck with up to 8 feet of bed length with the push of a button.
The roof over the cargo bed retracts into the main roof, while the rear window rolls into the tailgate. A Midgate divider with window that separates the cab from the bed folds down (the window powers down into it) along with split-folding rear seats, doubling cargo capacity from 40 to 80 cubic feet. The bed itself is waterproof and features drainage holes and movable tie-downs. With the rear window down, the tailgate extends out for two extra feet of space, or, with the window still rolled up, it can open to the side like a conventional SUV. Power comes from a 4.2-liter, 275-hp V6 or 5.3-liter, 325-hp V8 with displacement-on-demand. Both engines are matched to a 4-speed automatic. The 2005 Envoy XUV is available as a base SLE or upscale SLT, which adds leather seats and a power driver's seat to base features, such as ABS brakes, a full power setup, and dual-zone climate control. Traction control is optional.
Its incredible cargo versatility is high point for owners of the 2005 Envoy XUV, who also use the bed for expansive tailgate parties and for camping (a tent cover and mattress are offered as options). They also like the acceleration power and confident handling. Downsides include maneuverability and noticeable body lean around curves, low fuel economy, and a desire for more towing capability.

The XUV is unique among modern vehicles being a large SUV that converts to a pickup truck. The V-8 version gives better mileage than the disappointing inline 6. The transmission is good for only 180k before needing a rebuild. The air handling controls are unnecessarily complicated and unreliable. Avoid the rear, air suspension although conversion to springs is about $200. A very comfortable, good-driving vehicle. Mar 15, 2020

Fast for how big it is, selectable AWD, 4WD Hi and Low and 2WD Rear always cool to have. Lots of windows to open in summer, rear gate is drop down and swing out. 7500 lbs towing is nice too for the recreational things I do not have. Only bad things are rust from previous owners (lived in Buffalo) so there is salt damage from winter conditions. Also all of the power windows wont be so cool when motors and such start breaking.
Over all great purchase, especially now that gas is down to 2.15 a gallon out here in York.Nov 08, 2008

I love my car, its everything I wanted in an SUV and serves every purpose for which I bought it. It's a 6 cyl that does the work of an 8. I've bought almost everything but the house and transported it in my vehicle and it has done a great job at transporting. Wide loads, no problem, tall loads, a breeze.
Oh and the most important is that it doesn't waste gas like an 8 cyl. Thats all I have to say, its great!!Jul 07, 2008

How can i fix my headlights?
I recently bought a 2005 GMC Envoy XUV. When I bought it the guy told me that the headlights sometimes go out and the owner before him rigged it to where all you have to do is touch a wire to the positive part of the battery. I have had it for about a month now. The first time I had trouble with the lights I did what the dealer told me and they came on. The second time it happened (the same night) I tried it and got nothing. I had to turn the car off and wait about 15 minutes before they came back on. It happened again and it came back on before I tried the wire. Then finally yesterday the passenger side low beam went out completely. High beams and fog lights still work. I don't have the slightest idea what could be wrong with the headlights or what the wire that the previous owners rigged is or how to fix any of it. Can someone please give me some idea on what is going on or how to fix it?
