2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Preview summaryImage

Finally, a street racer for enthusiasts that's also affordable. The 2004 Neon SRT-4 is slower only than the Dodge Viper, and this year it gets a boost in horsepower from 215 to 230-hp and in torque to 250 lb-ft. An added limited slip differential improves performance on this already top-of-the-line racer that just also happens to be a subcompact. The SRT-4 taken on the race car circuit won several titles.

Outside, this four-door sedan starts as a Neon, but adds an aggressive Viper-like grille, huge rear spoiler, body-colored moldings, 17-inch alloy wheels, a hood scoop, and lowered front end to give the SRT-4 more of a menacing look than the cute Neon wears. New in 2005 is an optional sunroof. A lot of what makes the 2005 SRT-4 unique is it's a sports car that is also roomy, with comfortable seating for four and a huge trunk for cargo. It shifts easily between family car and speedster and is sure to please Mopar fans with small wallets. Even the gas mileage isn't that bad, at 22/30 mpg.

Drivers love the engine power of the SRT-4, but also how responsive and easy the handling is. Tuning potential is also attractive. There are few complaints about the 2005 Neon SRT-4, except for excessive speeding tickets. Many find the race-car style seating uncomfortable on long trips, and the high side bolsters make it difficult to get in and out. A lot of drivers wish there was a cruise control option. Poor rear visibility and a rough shifter are also mentioned.

I like the car, overall really nice part of history, owner did not take good care of the car before so it has issues but I plan on making this car return to it’s former glory and have a blast in it.Dec 29, 2020

I haven't ever taken it to the track but the acceleration, power, and sound are addicting. As far as quality I love the bare bones approach at performance though its a little loud on the highway and theres a few odds and ends that are a bit flimsy. The appearance is awesome, I love it thought it needs a new set of wheels and some coilovers to lower it. Gas mileage is in the 20's so its a little underpar. The engine runs great but small bits and pieces have needed to be replaced. This car is definitely fun to drive, fits like a glove, and surprises many.Nov 23, 2012
