As the model line looked more and more dated, the folks at GM made fewer and fewer innovations to its Chevrolet Blazer. The 2002 Blazer saw only superficial changes, with some minor tweaks to exterior detailing. The good news, though, was that the '02 Chevy Blazer was one of the most affordable midsize SUV offerings on the market; the model's long history and stable design translated into lower manufacturing costs and a lower sticker price.
Even though it didn't have all the bells and whistles some of its newer competitors offered, drivers still went for the rugged appeal and durability of the '02 Blazer. The range of choices were dramatically scaled back for the 2002 model year, and only two trims were offered: the LS and Xtreme. Two-door and four-door bodystyles were available for the LS; the Xtreme came only in a two-door version. 2WD and 4WD versions were available for each trim/bodystyle combo.
Fuel efficiency was pretty solid, especially considering the '02 Blazerâ??s heft and solidity. With a curbweight around 4,000 pounds, the EPA estimated that the Blazer could get 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway. Its 18-gallon gas tank meant that drivers could fuel up for the long haul as well.
The 2002 Chevrolet Blazer was powered by the Vortec 4300, a 4.3 liter V6 engine clocked at 190 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. Dual airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes, and rear child safety locks added to its aura of security.
Fans of the Chevy Blazer were concerned by rumors that the old-school sport utility wagon would be discontinued. Its sister model, the GMC Jimmy, had already been shelved in favor of the Envoy; as Chevrolet spun off the TrailBlazer into its own model line, the writing was on the wall for the Blazer. As it turned out, the model had a couple more years to go, and was only discontinued in 2005.

Have a 2002 Chevy blazer LS 4wd. Im losing power driving up steep hills. Get somewhere between 40-50 and my rpms drop and I start to slow down as Im going up the hill.Oct 10, 2021

Not as pictured... body paint is in rough shape , car has gotten wet inside smells like mildew , speaker cover on dash is busted the dash its self is missing chunks of it . The seal around the driver door has been failing for some time and some kind of white caulk has been applied and was not done clean.. I could keep going on like once the jump started the vehicle if the a.c. or defrost was turned on the motor would start to stall until they flipped it off (possibly a bad compressor) but I truly do not know I was done looking at that point Apr 20, 2021

Good vehicle, Specific Maintenance items needed at intervals, when maintained properly. Blazer can be a very inexpensive vehicle to maintain and drive. Resale value in later years not bad. Cheapest, most reliable Used 4wd SUV you can find for the money.Jun 08, 2014

I like how the vehicle looks, the reliability is good, plenty of room in the front sitting area but while sitting in the rear seat you sit high and there is really not that much leg room. The performance of the 4.3 liter engine is powerful. It will get up and go. The windows are tinted from the factory. Nov 14, 2012

Works out well for me and my friends to go snowboarding, could use more room.

overall very good. its my family/ long hunting trip vehicle and yes you can fit deer in the back with out folding down the seats. I have only gotten stuck once and i piled it into a ditch with 4 feet of snow in it. other then that it has always made it through.Dec 18, 2011

Roomy SUV that is nice looking, but the worst gas mileage every for such a small SUV. The power wasn't all that great either, but I would like to try a 5 speed to see the difference. I didn't have really any problems with it, but I think it was about to have some right when I traded it in.May 04, 2011

I have a 2002 Blazer. Its my workhorse. I use it for everything. The only thing I have noticed about mine thats bad is the placement of the emission canister. Its behind the drivers side rear tire. Found that out after a blowout. Other than that its great. Havent done anything to it except for basic maint stuff. I plan on driving it til it dies. 110000 miles and counting, and thats all city miles in Phoenix AZ where it gets brutally hot in the summer.Aug 28, 2010

I love the chrome, neons, and the sound of the muffler roaring when I take off. I don't allow any sort of food or tobacco products open in my car, which keeps it uber clean. Yes I do take it offroading, just not with those rims on. It's shinier than appears to be in the photo, due to the extensive waxing. We've owned this truck for almost 3 years. We changed the fuel pump 3 times along with the fuel regulator once. The fuel pumps on this model are awful and almost always go, but it wouldn't deter me from buying the same make and model. It's been reliable. The heat/A/C fan isn't working on it now so have to figure out what's up with that. Nice to drive and good side if you have a family or if it's just you.Feb 20, 2010

Good modern Chevy SUV. Great Handling and Braking. A lot of
Electronic parts go bad. Had to replace Distributor and may
need to replace the MAF sensor. Good looking SUV with lots of
interior space. Tinted Windows. ;) I'd rather have a 2dr Blazer
in Black with the Liftgate and Zr2 suspension package though.

I love my little suv. She gets me from a to b safely and with a little fun. The older clutch means it's a little stiff but that just add to the character of the vehicle.

This is my second the first was a 2000 blazer 2dr and never had a problem. However on the 2002 the 4WD has been nothing but headaches it gets stuck in 4wd! Problem' Transfer case shift module..very costly repair. first search other options available before repair.Feb 26, 2009

I like my 2002 Chevy Blazer Xtreme. Its has low miles and i plan on doin a lot to it. it had some interior work already done for more room so it rattles a bit, but Im in the process of fixing that. Its a blast to drive and I get good looks from it.Dec 14, 2008

It has great acceleration, wonderful brakes, and the handleing is good especially in the winter. I love driving it minus the price of gas. It only gets about 20 mpg on highway and about 12 mpg in city.Jul 13, 2008

I flipped this vehicle on I-75 three times... a van lost control behind me and ran into the back
passenger panel of the vehicle (similar to the pit maneuver cops use). I did have my seatbelt
on and walked away with no major injuries. The vehicle landed upside down and I had to
crawl out of the window. The only injuries I suffered were minor back injuries which had been

i bought this blazer for going to college, needed somethin with 4x4 so ended up with this blazer... its a 2002 chevy blazer zr2... has a v6 4.3 liter engine which isnt to bad, wish it was faster though... has 4x4 which i have already used and ill tell u, this blazer can go through some puddles like crazy, has 31 inch tires.... nottin to special about it except there arent many zr2 blazers around this area so somewhat rare.... It turns over for a second and then wont stay on on. if i keep trying it sounds more like it isnt getting fuel. I am thinking since I let the tank get low to check m,y milage I may have picked up some gunk in the tank and cloged the line somewhere. Any suggestions on how to go about diagnosing and fixing this?
