It doesn't have a turbo engine, but the 2001 Subaru Impreza features a large hood scoop and dual air dams. That's just a reminder to anyone else on the road that this compact car is fast. Introduced last year, the RS sedan and coupe versions of the 2001 Impreza hit 165-hp in a 2.5-liter H4 engine. The more sedate L sedan and coupe and Impreza wagons do the job with a 2.2-liter, 142-hp H4. A 5-speed manual tranny is standard and 4-speed auto optional.
The rally-inspired RS sedan and coupe feature a large rear spoiler and larger 16-inch tires, another signal of its racing pretensions. A sport suspension, sport seats, leather interior trim and new carbon-fiber interior accents add to the image. Also new this year is a standard CD player in the RS. Leather seats are optional. The base L comes with 15-inch tires, tilt steering, and power windows, locks, and mirrors, but everything else, including a CD player, is optional. The L wagon and Outback wagon provide more cargo room, with split-folding rear seats (not offered in the sedans and coupes) and a roof rack. The Outback wagon comes with splash guards and a stiffer suspension. Dual front airbags are standard across the line, but ABS brakes are only available with the RS models. The entire Impreza lineup is AWD, with a limited slip differential standard in the RS.
There were few changes to the 2001 Subaru Impreza, because an overhaul is scheduled for 2002, with even more power in the new WRX models and more standard features. Drivers of the 2001 Impreza love the handling and the way the superior AWD attacks snow and ice. The RS is very fun to drive, with immediate acceleration and 0-60 times of just over eight seconds. Overall, owners say the Impreza is reliable, and makes commuting fun. Though gas mileage is adequate for a compact, the sticker price can be expensive. With the weight of the AWD, drivers say more power is needed. Other drawbacks include the limited legroom, a clunky clutch, and a badly designed cupholder location.

nice to drive and a bit of fun drives really nice handles well really comfy and goes
round corners with confidence be prepared to spend alot of time at petrol stations
and have a spare engine close at hand! interior is nice and the aircon works really

Awesome Car, but the price I paid at the dealership was crazy, It was way
over priced and need $2200 in work, so wasn't the best deal but I love how it
handles being all wheel drive and it gets better gas mileage then both of my
parents cars! lol

Appearance - both interior (5) lots of plastic pieces broken and lots of smoking
stains and burn marks though I'v seen much worse and exterior styling(9)
would have been 10 but the cars 11 years old and has a really bad paint job
that is chipping on the front left so that needs to be fixed
Cost of Ownership - gas mileage 28-30 highway 23-25 city, maintenance Cheap
for everyday maintenance but being a Subaru if something breaks it could be
price ( head Gasket leak was $1200, rotors were $800)
Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive? Oh my gosh its great even with no turbo
charger, my first car was an Audi A4 and it had decent pick up but this car is

Performance wise it is the strongest non turbo 4 cylinder Ive ever driven, it feels like it has a ton more torque than this turbo civic I once drove, accelerates like a rocket with 5-6 second 0-60s, can stop on a dime and handling is second to none car goes where you point it. The build of the car is superb, has a nice solid sound when closing doors and trunk, feel like it could survive a bomb. The car looks amazingly sporty and very mean and aggressive with its lights and grill, Sips gas when driving normal and still gets over 20mpg when driving it hard, I do all my repairs myself and Subarus are a beauty to work on lots of room in the engine bay and parts can be found fairly cheap, unless its the transmission, the manual transmission is the only problem area on this car and it isnt all of them, you just have to be lucky to get a good one or swap in a wrx tranny. The car is amazingly fun to drive, my dad is a rwd v8 guy and he even gets a smile on his face when he gets to drive my car, amazing backroad runs and beautiful twisty road fun, also an awesome time on icy parking lots. The car is also very unique not many people have them. If you can get ahold of one of these do it, better yet get one and drop in a wrx or sti swap and you will be eating all other cars on the road, you might even be able to keep up with a vette.Dec 09, 2010

The '01 Impreza is not seen very often due to its rarity, so be prepared to see a lot of double-takes. One drawback to this is that they are hard to find if you are in the buyer's market. Power is so-so, but it handles very well with only few modifications. Would recommend for twisty roads.Jan 25, 2010

I tell everyone who asks me what kind of car should i get that they should get a subaru. I've had no problems with my subaru. It handles great, it gets great gass mileage, and they last a very long time. My subaru has over 200,000 miles on it and it runs like new.Nov 19, 2009

this car is with out a doubt one of the best that I've ever
driven. It's response to impute is fast and almost telepathic.
The future for this car is going to be the assent of Pikes Peak.
The only major complaint is the same as all n/a 4 cyl cars,
power peaks out at a whopping 175bhp, addition of

Likes to drink the petrol! performs great on a half tank, can be top heavy in the corners but thats to be expected! steering and turning circle is amazing! very comfy! great suspension! it doesn't like setting off in full lock!
imboliser cutting off the ability to start the engine 40 seconds after the car has opened is annoying! space and comfort it is fantastic to go with the build quality, would recommend one to anyone!Jul 17, 2009

What this car lacks is a turbo. Plain and simple. Suspension is
tuned perfectly for twisty roads. The ground clearence is
perfect for snow days up to hood. There is just eneough room
for me and my girl to go on an adventure. She has not let me

The Subaru does not die. It is mechanically sound and
incredibly reliable. It's an attractive car although gets better
the newer you buy and doesn't cost a fortune to own. Great

Maybe the all-around best platform for a modified import in the snowbelt. AWD, huge aftermarket support, easy engine swaps, great looks, fantastic handling, rock-solid reliable, tough as nails, easy to modify and maintain. Love of my automotive life. I fell in love with the impreza from the first time I
say it. The fog lights, the hood scope and the
sunroof. Loved it. This was the last year the car
had this body style. I feel that this was the best
design subaru ever made for this car. I loved how
beefy this car looked. Kind of remind me of the
limited 22b impreza. When it comes to
performance, this car is amazing. Handled
incredible, Pretty peppy and It was a incredible ride.
On top of that I was really relaible. I miss this car. I

fantastic. Totally reliable, corners like its on rails! Copes with my driving and is just fab. love it to bits. wish I could buy another one.
Does cost a lot to run but thats motoring for you!
it is impractical as there is not a lot of storage, but then thats because its a saloon.

I bought it not too long ago. Has been a fun little car which I am hoping to make into a beast soon. Cost of ownership is not too expensive you just have to know the right people to get a good one in good condition. too much power in the front, and it's not full time AWD, only kicks in in a
certain rpm, feels more like a FWD than a AWD....

I only have 71,000. miles on this car but have had no major problems and the dealer has readally taken care of any and all problems without charge.I have never been able to get the slight hesitagion out of the engine when I first touch the accellator.I'm only on my second set of tires.Other than the hesitation I am very in like with the Subaru Impreza Limited 2001.Mar 20, 2008
