It's only a coincidence that the the Volvo S70 was discontinued after the first model year following Ford's acquisition of the Swedish automaker. Initial fears that Ford ownership would result in a quality decline were unfounded; in fact the reputed Volvo quality seemed in many ways to permeate into the Fords instead.
The 2000 S70 earned 5 stars in the NHTSA's frontal crash test for both the driver side and the passenger and 4 stars for the side-impact, thanks to the standard-equipment airbags.
Of course, the side-impact protection is a hallmark of the Volvo name, and this year's cars also boast improvements in the seat belt pretensioners, making the riders' safety net even more responsive. Another wonderful new feature is the WHIPS (whiplash protection) system, which moves the headrests and seatbacks slightly backward when the vehicle is hit from behind. Now that's a bit of Swedish genius. And when you also figure in the standard ABS and traction control, it all adds up to a vehicle you can trust to shield you from harm.
J.D. Power lavished 5 stars onto the 2000 Volvo S70 for its body and interior quality and 4 stars for its performance, mechanical quality, and creature comforts. User opinions widely praise its safety features and workmanship as well as its reliability, handling, responsiveness, and comfort, although a few kvetched that the backseat could be roomier. Others had a thing or two to say about the cost of maintenance, but hey, you can go back to that Escort you drove in college if the occasional repair bill bugs you.
In addition to the aforementioned safety features, the S70 includes as standard equipment air conditioning and power doors and locks; it is considered a luxury car, after all. And in this crazy world of today, feeling safe on the road is a luxury indeed.

LOVE MY CAR. 236,000 miles and counting. The interiors disintegrated on All I’ve seen including mine ( door panel leather shrinks, etc ) Overall maintenance is above average acceptable. Looking for another with the 2.4ltr 5 cyl turbo Instead of a brand new vehicle Dec 20, 2022

5 cylinder 190 horsepower engine is quick! The interior is awesome - leather
heated power seats, dual climate control, sunroof...I plan to put tires and some
suspension upgrades on it within a year to improve handling and performance.

Great car very safe probably the safest car on the road, I really love the handling it handles like a civic or something small. The car has a lot of trunk space and a ton of options. This car is loaded, looks good and feels good. This car is built very solid and it has some weight but it drives like its a sports car. The only down side is the parts cost some money and this car was only built for 3 years so its hard to find some parts unless brand new (which is very expensive). The brakes are one of the things i like best.
Comes with 8 speakers and they sound great. The traction controle is very good car is very stable seats are nice has heated seats and mirrors. I deff like this car better than the S80's I just think they are built way better and a heck of a lot easier to work on. This car is not nearly as bad to work on as other model volvo's I love this car!!

Bought it this year and love the car. The five-cylinder sounds great when you wind it out. Comfortable? Amazingly so. Love the car. Tip: Get the best spark plugs you can. truly makes a difference and run it on premium, or at least mid-grade.
June 24, 2014: Daughter has the car and it still runs extremely well. Sure, it has a few little problems like any 14-year old car (mostly aging plastic), but it's dependable, comfortable, reliable and has great pickup. A few rattles, but nothing serious. Mileage is still 26-28 highway and around 18-21 in town. Almost 160K miles and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Wife has 2000 V70 and it's in excellent shape at 120K miles. Do the little stuff and they'll run forever. Oh, and ALWAYS use Volvo brake pads. Anything else squeaks a lot.Sep 12, 2009

This was a 4 year lease turn-in so the mileage was 21k. I like the fit of the seats for my 6'1" build. The back seat split for trunk access is useful. Sunroof/moonroof is great. The computer info (miles driven, mpg, avg mpg, temp) is nice. After 8 years, the AC hose cracked which costs $400 due to dashboard removal to access. Fully equiped except for the sunroof. I bought an EuroSport 3 inches exhaust system and the sound is totally amazing!!!!

2000 Volvo S70 GLT SE response issues
My volvo can drive just fine if I am in town and going a short distance. If it is running for more than 25 minutes it starts idle extremely rough. Once this has happened, I get little, to no, response from my accelerator. I can pump the gas while driving and here no response, I can also only go 30 MPH max when it is acting up. If I let the car sit for about an hour after it starts to act up, it will drive again. Does anybody know what this could be?
