2000 Chevrolet Malibu Reviews, Pricing & Specs

I bought this car with high mileage 90,000 and it actually had good power for having a small motor. It was really good on gasoline. It was comfortable. I also loved the flexible side mirrors. It was a great little car and it has a great engine, but, it did have its share of electrical problems. In the 2 years I had it I had to replace the ignition switch (around $700) and the brakes had to be replaced 2x. I also had to replace the line from the power steering. I finally traded it in when the ABS brake light kept coming on and the brakes were squeaking horribly and it needed 3 ignition coils.. Overall, being it had 120,000 on it when I traded it in I'd say it was a good car for me. It slept underneath the stars and it started up everyday. Though, I do think this model had way too many electrical problems and I've researched it and many others said the same. I'd recommend with reservations.Jan 08, 2012

Bought the car in September of 2010 had 153,000 miles. only $600 but i have almost another $4000 invested into it between the sound system and repairs. Performance is not to great, but it comes to be expected from a v6. The appearance could use some work inside and out. Driver seat is torn up from usage over 11 years. Paint is scratched up and has a few minor rust spots. Since I have added the sound system I love driving this car. If i didnt have it, the fun factor would drop to a 0.Nov 11, 2011

It's a good luxury vehicle, and since I have a baby daughter it works perfectly for now, gas mileage is good and when I don't have my daughter with me yes I do push it to the limit and I see what it can do and for a luxury based vehicle it aint bad at all. I'm very happy with it overall and would go back to choosing this vehicle if I ever needed a good vehicle that I trust, but for now I just want my Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged that's all.Oct 15, 2010

White paint means every scratch and scuff shows Performance- Its good accelerating after it gets traction but it chirps on the go Build Quality- Cheap, but easy to take apart whenever I'm running wires for whatever Appearance- Cheap Plastic Interior, It's clean outside because of new headlights, fresh paint and some Konig Tantrum Rims. Before it turned into crap (see above pic), it was ok... It wouldn't go above 60 without shaking violently and it was in constant need of repairs. I put in a new stereo, and the factory one was freaking hard to get out, we eventually had to cut into the plastic around the old one to make the hole big enough to get the new one into. It was a fun car to drive when I felt like my life wasn't threatened. It got moderate gas mileage. Dec 07, 2009

This car has very good performance. It has a 3.1 L V6 under the hood that pushes around 170 hp. the 0 to 60 is right around 8 seconds, and the handling is very tight and smooth. The build quality in this car is just amazing, the road noise is great even without the SVC turned on. I have not needed to do any repairs other than an oil change in the 5 months that i have owned it. Moving on to the appearce and styling. The exterior styling is very good and the interior is done very well. Overall this is my favorite car so far out of the 6 that i have owned, fun to drive, has good looks inside and out, and has been a joy to own.Oct 14, 2009

looks good. Drives Okay. But too much quality problems naturally. Extremely unreliable and too much money/time spend on repairing. The engine gasket leaking, breaks problem, water pump broken, A/C did not work well, engine light and ABS light always ON, starter gone twice in old winter, passage side power window fails etc. The dangerous one was No Power on highway -- i was almost been killed. This car has almost no value (110k miles) so I just drive it in the weekend for shopping (if I could start it). Oct 07, 2009

My car's performance actually tested 2 b perfect 4 it 2 b a used car. It doesn't and hasn't really needed any repairs. Its overall appearance is perfect expect 4 a tiny dent and a scratch it had in it nd da paint peeled off a lil' on da front bumper. In da inside da only thing dat was nd is messed is one of da visers. It had about 100,000 miles on it nd I'm buyin' it 4 $4,995. I love drivin' my car b/c it's dependable, good on gas, has great workin' cruise control, a/c, a lovely speaker system, nd rides oh so smooth!May 18, 2009

It gets the job done i suppose, there is a lot of body roll on corners and the brakes always seem to put up a fight. it does accelerate quickly enough to overtake many cars on the highway so that's a plus. the fuel consumption isn't bad either if you don't drive with a heavy foot. it feels relatively solid but it seems to be a very heavy car. this would explain the body roll and massive weight shifting when braking and accelerating (also the doors weigh a million tonnes). its not a bad looking car on the outside, mine has the optional spoiler for a sportier look, but its not too great on the inside. its cramped in the front and back... it looks bigger from outside. i had a dodge spirit and the interior was much larger even though it was a smaller car. it is fairly fun as you have to wrestle it around bends at 80km/h (i live in the country) so it feels a lot faster. overall not bad :)Apr 24, 2009

Great all around versatility with decent fuel economy Pretty good replacement for the Chevrolet Corsica. Aerodynamic styling with rain gutter features so water does not drip when opening the door. The side mirrors are reflexible, if in case it is hit by a pole, it springs back to position. All 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu comes standard with ABS. The car is a decent size and have convenient features on a budget. I like the left side cupholder on the dashboard, unfortunately it makes exiting the car more difficult when used. I would of liked more shoulder room in the front and more leg room in the rear if the front seats are slided about 3/4 of seating track towards the back. Surprisingly the car handles curves very well with some body leans (noticed using Goodyear Eagle GT HR tires). Unfortuantely the 3.1L/3.4L engines have been known for leaking intake manifold gaskets. Now available are the revised gaskets to correct the situation. Even worse was the fact that the amount of parts to remove just to get to the old gaskets. In other words, I wished the car was more mechanic friendly. I wished the car came with a transmission fluid level dipstick. The 4T40E/4T45E only uses a fluid level plug, which requires you to go under the car while engine is running and all four wheels need to be on jack stands or vehicle lift. Blower motor resistor block are known to burn out. This created the symptom of not getting fan speed 1 or 2. Knock on wood, I only had to replace it once. It is under the front passenger footwell held in by two bolt and you unplug the electrical connector. Other than the leaking intake manifold gaskets (could not repair in one weekend at first) and damage to the front right suspension/axle (shop had to wait on parts), the car was able to spend most of the time on the road.Jul 19, 2008

when we first got the car (bought it brand new), we loved it i used to call it my "malibu beach baby" about three years down the road, we started having numerous problems we put thousands of dollars worth of work into it only to have something else go wrong soon after tie rod, power steering, fuel pump and all the other parts around that,air conditioner died after four years, just to name a few things we kept her for eight years then finally had to let her go it was very sad but we started having transmission problems and she burned oil like water and was guzzling gas we now have a nissan altima which we absolutely loveMay 24, 2008

Many ppl don't like US cars - At least those who I know. However, I'd say this car is absolutly the one you should have a glance at. He has a very strong body, with black shining skin: ) so sexy! Riding on it, you will feel safe much more than some other Jap cars. But I still need to tell you that things are not perfect. There are some issues you need to pay attention to which are beneath that nice look. Engine, brake, fuel pump strainer, coolant, gasket, etc. However, you are lucky that most of them are not big problem to you and the cost on them is reasonable. So, in summary, nice car, deserve your considering.Dec 29, 2007

NOT a fancy car. Will not amaze your friends. Will not get anyone's attention. WILL get you where you need to go every time. -30 or 130 degrees, it will start and will function in exactly the way it is supposed to. Bought mine new in 2000, 149,320 miles later, 0 major problems. One set of brake pads, oil changes at 3000, 2 new rear speakers. People talk trash about the Malibu, but it's just that, a large cavalier. It does what it can!Dec 05, 2007
