1995 Lexus LS Preview summaryImage

In 1995, Lexus introduced an all new LS 400. The second generation of the Japanese luxury automaker's flagship received a power boost, fresh styling, and several new features. The already spacious interior grew slightly larger, thanks to a longer wheelbase. The LS shed about 300 pounds off its prior curb weight. Also, the CD changer was moved from the truck to the dash, which was quite an accomplishment at the time.
The LS 400's power plant still displaced 4.0 liters, but the aluminum block engine now made 260 horsepower and generated 270 pound feet of torque. The transmission reamined a 4-speed automatic, but new more powerful brakes reduced 60-0 stopping distance to just under 120 feet. The 0 to 60 acceleration time was pinched by a half second, now at 7.4, and the quarter mile time also fell to 15.5 seconds. Every LS was rear wheel drive. Improved gas mileage provided more good news for owners. The LS was now rated at 19/25 mpg. The new generation quickly reinforced the LS reputation for ride quality, with many reviewers listing the smoothness and absence of road noise as favorite features. And over time, the second generation of LS has only strengthened the Lexus reputation for reliability. However, as many drivers are reaching 150 to 200 thousand miles, some have experienced problems with spark plugs, brakes, and timing belts.

What can I say, I am the second owner and it's at 91K miles. Still run like dream: quite, responsive, solid. Suspension system is still be best; it's better than the air suspension of 2001-2006. The Lexus audio system still out-beaten the Mark-Levinson of 2001-2006 on the LS430. I still enjoy to drive the car whenever I get the chance. Nov 16, 2013

What I liked about my Lexus LS400 was EVERYTHING. What I dislike about it, is that we sold it! I wish so much that I had it back even with 188,000 miles on it. It was still way better than this Mitsibishi. It handled like a DREAM. Turning radius was amazing. Floated down the road like your favorite mattress or sofa. Yet, SUCH fun to drive.Feb 19, 2010
