I got this for $1600/ 101,000 miles. I had to clean the power window switch contacts to get all but the driver's side window to work. Replaced some suspension items. Otherwise car in good shape. Black leather interior is perfect shape. (Love the leather covered steering wheel, as perfect shape as it was when new.) Had been owned by a PA State Trooper who serviced it well (with records). All the broken stuff (mediocre Ford parts at the time) had been repaired by the dealer before I got it. 111,000 miles on it now. One concern. The expensive (lots of labor time) 60,000 engine service had not been done. I'll have to come up with the money or learn how to do it myself. All in all, I LOVE this car. After selling my Camry with just shy of 400K miles... I thought a Taurus with 87K miles would be OK.. I was FAR from right..
Where to start..
between 87K mile and 110K miles i replaced the torque converter 5 times.
Brakes.. Would eat through pads like water
electrical system only worked when it rained.
Power windows broke..
power sunroof.. broke
Climate control, AC worked in the rain, Heat worked all the time, if you wanted it or not.
Power seats.. You needed to drag your butt forward for you to move forward..
Keyless entry.. sure.. But if you started the car, closed the door without you in it, it would auto lock you out.
Stuck in traffic.. you would over heat..
body panels like to randomly fall off..
leaked and burned oil.
stock radio was terrible, but if you want to change it you have to re-wire all the door speakers.
potholes randomly turned on interior lights..
Paint was pretty good actually
transmission when it did work would hang for a day between gear before up-shifting. Gas mileage was "OK" at best..Dec 20, 2013

Before the 1993 Taurus, I'd had 2 1988 Taurus', one 1986 Taurus and a 1988 Mercury Sable. The '93 was by far my favorite! Smooth, comfortable and so much fun to drive. It handled fabulous in any weather and looked great!Feb 03, 2012

i really didnt like the car it was a pain to maintain it was ok off the line when my
tranny didnt slip i got it for a few hundard bucks not really a fun car but it was a

The ford taurus SHO is and amazing car 4 doors v6 5 speeds and a hole lot of fun gas milage isnt bad about 21-25mpg depending on how you drive. wont break down if you maintain it well yupMar 12, 2010

It was very unpleasant to drive. Perhaps the worst car I have ever driven. Lots of mechanical problems. It shook if you took it over 60mph. Was slow as a brick and could barely make it up any hills. Thank god it wasn't mine and that I drove it only a few times. Jan 31, 2010

Performance-Better than Ford Explorers and Chevrolet Blazers.
Build Quality-After many repairs,the noises are still louder than the radio.
Appearance-Is perfect for a 75 year old women.
Cost of Ownership-Enough!

Overall, Its stilla ford... Perf, Yamaha v6 AWESOME but still only 220hp Build, Hard to work on, but is reliable when its working apper, sharp but doesnt stand out cost, low american parts and aftermarket support fun, sleeper, kills hondas oftenJul 03, 2009

This was the worst car ever I HATE IT! ... the new ones
are good though 2001-2010. It had the worst cup
holders ever... they couldn't hold cups the car didn't
stop no matter how many times the brakes were
looked at. the brakes squeeked all the time ....

fast, a real sleeper, love passing the imports,not many around my neck of the woods, body typical ford, rust and poor quality, awesome engine thou, weak transmission (auto) 255,000 miles and 3 trannys. good gas mileage, have owned several fords in my life, fastest by far, but not as comfy as the 85 e150 conversion van I hadJan 23, 2009

Based on humble underpinnings, the car comes alive with the Yamaha-built 3.0L V-8 and manual transmission. 0-60 in 7.0 sec. 140+ mph top speed. Reasonably taut handling. Weak synchros in 2nd gear. The Yamaha engine was built for alot more thrashing than the accessories could take. Too bad this engine never found it's way into a purpose-built sports car.Aug 31, 2008

My SHO is in great physical condition. It's very quick (especially for a Taurus) and can blow most ricers out of the water. It came pretty cheap, but the exhaust had been modified. It's very fun to drive and handles like a pro. I hope to keep it for a long time.Aug 03, 2008

Mine is not in good condition at all and has 213,948 miles on it now as it sits under a pine tree. Great car though if you can find one in good shape. Very fast but the 4 speed auto kind of limits the extra 15 ft lbs of torque from the new 3.2 liter version of the 3.0 liter SHO V6. Power is 220 HP and 215 lbs. ft. of torque. 0-60 in 7.2 sec.May 27, 2008

Bought it in 2004 with 160, 000 miles. Replaced the transmission in the first 3 months and used it for driving to school and work. Now it has almost 200, 000 miles with a few problems that I had to fix along the way. Not all the power windows and locks work and the interior is a little faded. Apr 14, 2008

1993 Ford Taurus 4 Dr LX Sedan mine was beige, good car with lots of room. just had 113000 kms on it when I scrapped it, after 2 trannys in two weeks. Wich was upsetting, the car had a ton of room and drove quite nice.Jan 12, 2008

My ex boss had that car and I had a chance to drive it across the country once. The car is absolutely wonderful to drive. But my boss spent a huge amount of money repairing it constantly. Therefore I can't really recomend it. If not for the technical problems, I'd love to own one.Jan 06, 2008

At times it will crank and not start but will start after sitting for a few hours. The fuel pump is wired directly to the battery through a switch. Is the fuel pump going out or could it be a lack of a relay ?

Low Oil Pressure
At low Speeds below 10 MPH and idle only does the low oil pressure oil light come on before i got a oil change it would stall out at stop lights and at idle which it don't do anymore... From a cold start it does not have any oil pressure light on.. when the low oil pressure light comes up.. what could be causing this ? is this just a minor issue? had oil light sending unit replaced last year that didn't fix the light. But after a oil change the car don't stall out anymore when the engine is hot at stop signs, red lights and idle.. Low oil pressure light comes on when engine is hot only.. 90,448 miles and counting on the car started having this issue at around 85,000 thousand miles car has had this issue well over a year.
