I like it because I had a '95 and am familiar with this type of vehicle. Maintenance costs won't break the bank because these are tough little trucks often averaging a lifespan of 200k or more miles with only routine maintenance. The most important item is the timing belt or timing chain, which MUST be replaced at recommended intervals to avoid costly repairs later. Like I said, for the money, it's hard to beat!Apr 08, 2015

Horrible vehicle all around, Where do i start? Well if you could get all of the emission controls to work all at once she would finally start but who knows how long. The thing was falling apart at the seams just sitting. Defiantly one of the ugliest vehicles ever. I bought it for $500 with a bad motor and went through two more just trying to get it to be road-worthy. The best fuel economy it ever got was 15 mpg out of 2.6L 4-cyl. Only things it had going for it were the 4WD and the bed for hauling.May 08, 2012

I fell in love with this vehicle on the car lot and had to have it. I bought it after looking it over, but didn't know it was even a standard until I drove it lot. So, I managed to get it home then had to get a friend to teach me how to drive a standard transmission. I would have kept it, but less than 2 months later, when driving home from work, I was tboned by a drunk driver, totalling my car.Jul 31, 2009

The truck was actually a 1985, for some reason that was not a choice. Performance wise: sucked in just about every way. Top speed was 70ish mph(no speedo). Build Quality: it needed many repairs, broke down on me all the time. I used to deliver pizzas in it, and had to roll it off to start it. Appearance: not to pretty, it didn't really attract the ladies that well. Cost: it was pretty cheap, I got my moneys worth out of it. The Mighty Max began back in the late seventies and transgressed until the mid ninties. The truck did have mutiple "generations", but in reality not much ever changed on the vehicle. The key words to this little truck are minimalistic and strength. If you do not "need" it...they did not offer it. Comfort is a far cry from stength. The truck is built like a tank. Really! In Japan this vehicle was known as the Forte and was about the largest civil truck available in Japan. Therefore, they were built much stonger than many full-size trucks in the USA. Here we have the Ranger and S-10 which were not built to be very tough. Hence, if you needed a tough truck you bought an F-150 or a Silverado... in Japan you did not have that option. The Mighty Max has a full ladder box frame complete with six lug wheels and full bumpers. The truck has an on-board capacity of over 1500 lbs! In total the truck only weighs 2,500 empty due to its minimalistic approach. The engine is strong and pulls very well, although don't expect 60 mph anytime before 10 seconds. If you remove the rack and really slam on it, I think that it could beat the RX-7 in straight line performance though. It does move pretty good. The handling is surprisingly good with manual steering that is very precise. Body roll is nill due to the oversize leaf springs and huge shock absorbers. The truck is a real blast to drive. The rack on top allows me to transport my canoe, kayack, or anything else. My motorcyeles drive right up into the bed on ramps that mount onto the rack for transit. Excellent set-up. Excellent truck.
