Maybe mechanically ok, but the body is in bad shape. Lots of missing or broken seals, not sure the Targa roof leaks. The a
ntenna is missing and someone put just a tape over it, original steering wheel and radio replaced. Interior not in great condition.Oct 12, 2021

Its a fun car to own. Insured as a collector vehicle, which means the insurance is reasonably priced, but it is not going to be a daily driver. This car is slowly morphing into a pretty good investment (Rule 1: Never buy a sports car as an investment. Rule 2: Sometimes you might be surprised, but that is just luck) Smooth transmission. Stick with the OEM clutch. The heavy duty clutch makes your leg ache. OEM brakes are preeety darn good. Gets surprisingly good gas mileage (34-36 mpg) for a 3.2 liter 6 cyl. Whiles driving it is best to hum "Casey Jones, better watch your speed..."Apr 15, 2015

So much to like trumps any dislikes. Car is a solid 9. Owned for 20 years because of engineering, performance, style, handling, extreme reliability and thumbs up from spectators and collectors. Pricing for Carrera's of this vintage and condition are beginning to increase substantially. Since my ownership and not including routine maintenance I have replaced a power seat switch, license plate light, heater temp control knob, upgraded headlamps, installed oversize sway bars, added a shock tower strut/brace, performance chip, sport muffler & turbo tie rod ends. At 107k miles I am about to finally replace the original clutch. What's not to like? All that said, my car in not presently for sale. Cargurus required completion of this summary in order to save a search as I am looking for a 2nd Porsche, a 996 Turbo.Mar 10, 2015

Fast, fast, fast! Torque is major and balance is superb as expected in a true Porsche. Corners at over twice posted curve speed with no strain and brakes fast and sure.

Like porsche says "their is no substitute". To clarify it may look almost exactly like a 911 turbo but comparing the two is like apples & oranges, its far beyond a nine eleven, thats why it was discontinued in 89, rub the ninethirty the wrong way andyou would pay dearly, no second chances, it was simply too raw for the majority of the public. Being the lunatic that i am,i upped my rear wheel hp to 500+! In a word, "UNREAL". To make it brief, your on a whole other level whenyour front tires lift off the ground!Jan 08, 2013

It's a 1987 911 carrera with a 1991 911 turbo engine redone by randolph racing. This car is a good way to commit suicide. Its an absolute scream machine and is a total blast to drive. I wouldnt sell it for the world.Jul 14, 2009

What is the largest 16" wheel tire combination I can run on the front and rear of a 1987 911 without modifications to the body?
Trying to find/figure out the biggest tire I can fit on 1987 Carrera (NOT TURBO) if I go to 16" Fuchs. I had 245/50/15 on rear and they looked great but NO ONE makes that tire size any more.
