Why doesn't temp. guage work?
Temp. gauge does not work put new sending unit in , still not working. Ran test light from ground to sending unit wire Test light goes on and off and gauge goes to hot, any solutions?

i have been thru alot with my little ford ranger and it has came thru every time i have done road trips, off roading, camping, ect. and its a great little truck and starts every time cold start or not.Oct 18, 2013

Weak 2.3L burns oil, gets about 10L for 100km, carburated, 4spd on the floor, body is in good shpae for an 84, frame has no rot, good for a project truck. Does good in the twisties for a truck. Parts are hard to find sometimes, which makes some repairs a waiting game.Jan 26, 2011

Performance - Acceleration was crap, it was quite a slow truck.
Build Quality - Very solid, tough as nails truck, could take a beating and keep on going.
Appearance - I liked the style, not all would.
Cost of Ownership - Got almost 30 MPG, it had a 2.3L SOHC 4 Cyl., low maintenance.
Fun Factor - quite fun to drive except when trying to get out into traffic!

I only had this truck for 2 months before a Ford F-150 blew a stop sign and sent her off to the scrap yard. In those 2 months, it was a good ride. I had no problems at all. I even still drove it for a month after the accident! It was ugly, it was slow, but it was tough as nails!Jan 25, 2008

I traded my 92 Saturn SL1 for this Ranger 4x4 about 3 years ago. I was a floorcoverings installer and needed to carry about 800lbs of tools and gluey trowels everyday to and from my jobs. The Saturn wasn't cutting it even with the flip down rear seats ! I acquired a shell and hit the road. I'm impressed with the get up and go of the v6 in this truck. It starts with just one turn of the key every time, even on the coldest mornings. The two gas tanks are pretty cool too, as you can switch from one to the other on the fly. So one empties, at 65 mph and the truck starts to stall out, just flip the switch, pump the pedal a few times and its like nothing ever happened. The 5x7 bed is the perfect size for just about anything you need to carry.

I purchased the truck from the original owner. I was his mechanic. when I purchased the truck from him, it had 250,000 miles on it.
Still with the original clutch. (which is still in it now).
I resleeved the cylinders and put new pistons in the 2.0 engine. reseated the valves installed new valve stem seals.I did not change the cam or crankshaft and bearings. I did put in a new oil pump.
Then I put 4 new tires, all new brake pads and shoes. New rear axle bearings and seals.
After that thurough shake down it went to work. Everyday for 9 months it drove 200 miles. 100 of it loaded, every other day pulling a small covered trailer. I was moving into my new home and shop. It drove just under 50,000 miles in 9 months. it's gas milage averaged 28mpg.
Since then I have given it light duty responsibilities. I installed a carb off of the early 1600cc pinto engine. Removed all of the vacum and control valves. put a capri exhaust manifold with 2Oct 16, 2006

1984 ford ranger won't start
I have a 1984 ford ranger drove it in garage and parked it. Went to start it and it won't start just makes clicking noise like battery is dead or a grinding noise. I took starter off had it tested and it was bad so got a new starter and a silenoid and it does the same thing.... Tried jumping it, letting battery charge, took battery out of other truck and put in it still nothing ;$

2.3 to 5.0 engine swap
hello everyone, just wondering about a few things for my project that I am about to under take. I have a 84 ranger 2.3L with a leaky valve cover gasket and valve seals are gone on it too, but other wise for one spot on the hood the body is perfect, frame is soild, and came with 4 new tires sitting in the box. All for 400 bucks. But the thing is that i want something with guts and keep it a manual trans, and so a friend of mine wants to sell me a 302 (5.0L) with a 5spd side shift trans. But because of how far back the shifter sits, I would have to toss the bench seat and go bucket seats or go with a side shift to topshift conversion kit making it just like a mustang trans. So what's your thought's, because as far as I know this has never been done before.
