I had a 1977 Ford Granada 2 Dr with a 302V8 and factory 4 speed. Forth gear was over drive. When I brought the car it had slightly over size tires on it and it handled exceptionally well. My car had a large rear end which was very heavy and it went fantastic in the snow. The rear main seal went and I had to keep on replacing clutches until I finally replaced the seal. Forth gear (over drive) and third gear are too close in ratio. The car had plenty of power in first and second, only fair in third and not too good in over drive. Ford had a lot of trouble with their valve seals in the seventies and my Granada was no exception. The seals turn rock hard, break up and clog the oil pump screen which staves the engine for oil. If the pass kicks in then in a piece of valve seal may then get sucked into the oil pump. The chip will then break the pump and twist off the shaft the drives the distributor. I suggest that anyone with a Ford engine in the seventies have their valve seals replaced if they are original. My car was rust proofed and I thought that was a good thing, but as it turned out the rust proofing material ruined car. The material let go from the body partially and water got in between the rust proof material and the body itself. You couldn't tell what was going on under the rust proof coating and by the time I realized what was going on the body was too far gone to save. I've heard some people knock the Granada, but I certainly liked my Granada and I enjoyed driving it. I once got into an accident in a snow storm while crossing over high way bridge that suddenly froze over. Although the car received quite a bit of damage it stood up quite well considering I took on a tractor trailer and a guard rail. Dec 21, 2009
