Oil embargo? What oil embargo? Sales of the 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo grew to over 312,217 at a time when most people were purchasing smaller cars.

Very few changes were made from the 1973 model year, and were most noticeable coming and going: a revised grille up front, and a larger rear bumper and smaller taillights in back.

The standard engine in the 74 Monte Carlo was a 350-ci V8, rated at 145 horsepower. Optional engines included a 400-ci V8 rated at 180 horsepower and the ever-popular 454-ci V8 rated at 235 horses. Available packages were the Landau and Sport Coupe.

Love the look of the car bodystyles,it's big and durable can take a beating,it's a good cruiser or family car,fun to drive,but are known for being cold blooded and not dependable at times,but it gets allot of looks these days and way more popular now then they were back then not many of them left there made to last.Jul 02, 2013

I have owned my 74 Monte Carlo now for about 6 years and I love it!!! It has the 454BB and handles like a dream, especially at top speed! It's classy, yet still a tough looking car that sounds awesome with its dual exhaustFeb 10, 2010

i bought this car for $500.00 in 2002 it was a low rider! first time i drove it i got it stuck on a gutter at auto zone had to jack it up and push it off the gutter next day car was at shop for first of many up grades! the car is fast enough to beet a supercharged dale ernhart edition monte carlo! and for all you ford fans i beat a saline mustang! and sen't him home crying when i told him he just got beat by a $500.00 chevy! i love my car!!!!Dec 17, 2009
