Reviewed a 2018 Genesis G90 on May 17, 2024
Explain your rating: The 2018 Genesis G90 impresses with its luxurious features, smooth performance, and exceptional comfort, earning it a high rating. It offers a near-perfect balance of luxury, technology, and value, making it a strong contender in the luxury sedan market. Features: The G90 comes well-equipped with a plethora of high-end features. Highlights include: A refined and powerful V6 or optional V8 engine, delivering a smooth and responsive driving experience. Advanced safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera system. Luxurious interior appointments, including high-quality materials, heated and ventilated seats, and an expansive rear seat with executive-class comfort. An intuitive infotainment system with a large touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium audio system. Value: The G90 offers excellent value for a luxury sedan, providing features and performance that rival more expensive German counterparts like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series, but at a significantly lower price point. Genesis also includes a comprehensive warranty and excellent customer service, further enhancing its value proposition. Missing Elements: While the G90 is impressive, it could benefit from: A more dynamic driving experience, particularly in handling and steering feel, to better compete with sportier luxury sedans. Continued updates to its technology interface, as some competitors offer more advanced and seamless systems. A bit more brand recognition, as Genesis is still building its reputation compared to long-established luxury brands. Comparisons: I would compare the 2018 Genesis G90 to other full-size luxury sedans, such as: Mercedes-Benz S-Class BMW 7 Series Audi A8 Lexus LS Each of these models offers a blend of luxury, technology, and performance, but the G90 stands out for its value and comprehensive feature set.

It has more bells and whistles than I could imagine. Basically, an affordable Maybach! The drive is smooth and seats make it that much more comfortable. Lots of cool features for front and back seat passengers as well as for the driver.

The Genesis g90 is a fairly loaded car and is very beautiful. The right quality is outstanding and the car is very spacious, particularly for tall people. The car has autonomous driving but it is not good going around corners.

About the Genesis G90
The Genesis G90 is a large, four-door premium luxury sedan from the Hyundai Motor Group. The Genesis G90 exists in two generations in the United States: The first generation (2017 to 2022) received a major facelift in the 2019 model year. The second generation arrived for the 2023 model year with more modern design and a 48V “e-Supercharger” good for up to 409hp.
What are the advantages of the Genesis G90?
- Premium quality quilted leather upholstery
- An emphasis on rear passenger comfort with reclining rear seats
- An electronically controlled suspension with Road Preview that adjusts for road irregularities
What is the best Genesis G90 model year?
The first generation G90 arrived in 2016 and it’s essentially a different car than the current generation, with V6 and V8 engines in place of the current generation’s lone 3.5-liter twin turbo V6. In every way, the current generation is the car to pay attention to. Available in the 2023 and 2024 model years, you’ll spend more for a second generation G90, but it will be an appreciably better car.
What are the disadvantages of the Genesis G90?
The fact that the Genesis G90 is what has been described as a “spectacular value” might be its greatest disadvantage. People seem to think that the G90 is somehow “less than” when compared to competitors from BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz. It is not, but perception can often still be reality especially in the brand-conscious luxury vehicle market.
Comparison: Is the Genesis G90 better than the Lexus LS460?
The Lexus LS is and has always been a formidable full-sized luxury sedan. But in the current generation, the design inside is (how do we put this?) weird. The horizontal fins of the center air vents somehow became the centerpiece of the LS460’s interior design and it just doesn’t work. Throw in the odd Star Wars ventilator grille outside and it’s too radical for what tends to be a conservative segment. The G90’s grille might be just as off-putting, but the interior of the G90 is sublime and the Lexus just can’t compete. And while the Lexus offers more horsepower on paper, the G90 makes better use of what it’s got by being faster in almost every measure.
Is the Genesis G90 a reliable car?
As of this writing, there has been one recall of the current G90 generation for replacement of seat belt pretensioners, and just two for the previous generation. Consumer complaints for the G90 seem to come in ones and twos, including one complaint about rodents chewing the wiring harness.
Is the Genesis G90 worth the cost?
If there’s a single thing to know about the G90, it’s that it’s an amazing value. It has won awards from the likes of Car and Driver, the Texas Auto Writers Association, and MotorTrend as a new vehicle, thanks to the fact that it beats both Lexus and Mercedes-Benz in a lot of categories, at a price up to $27,000 less. On the used market, WheelsTV (with help from the New England Motor Press Association) awarded the G90 its “POV of the Year” for pre-owned vehicles two years running.
