Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Enhanced Driver Alert package
- Infotainment: upgraded IntelliLink system with an 8-inch touchscreen and 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot

The 2016 GMC Yukon XL offers these trims:
- SLE: Start here if you want the core Yukon XL formula with 9-person capacity, front and rear parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers, a rear-view camera, remote ignition, keyless entry, foglights, running boards, roof rails, tri-zone auto climate control, rear privacy glass, power front seats, cruise control, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a 9-speaker Bose stereo, HD and satellite radio, 5 USB ports, an Aux input, and 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot.

- Denali: Choose this if you want the most premium setup, with a unique chrome grille, 20-inch alloys, xenon headlights, a customizable digital instrument panel, a larger V8 engine, magneto-rheological suspension, a standard trailer-brake controller, navigation, second-row captain’s chairs, an upgraded 10-speaker Bose Surround Sound stereo, and active noise cancellation.
What GMC Yukon XL do most buyers choose?
The GMC Yukon XL years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 2,382 | 35% |
| 2022 | 2,358 | 33.9% |
| 2024 | 2,299 | 35.4% |
| 2021 | 1,479 | 32.5% |
| 2025 | 1,402 | 35% |

| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | $15,614 | −14.52% |

| 2021 | $40,844 | −13.41% |
| 2024 | $63,518 | −13.35% |
| 2025 | $73,538 | −13.08% |
| 2016 | $17,977 | −12.56% |
| 2019 | $25,349 | −12.53% |
| 2018 | $22,812 | −12.48% |
| 2017 | $19,914 | −11.62% |
| 2014 | $10,560 | −11.24% |
| 2022 | $46,353 | −10.99% |
| 2023 | $56,615 | −10.05% |
Most model years show double-digit year-over-year price declines, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want more SUV for the money. The pattern also suggests that newer Yukon XLs are seeing meaningful price movement, so recent model years may offer better value than they did a year ago.
The 2023, 2022, and 2014 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the GMC Yukon XL safe?
- 2016: 6/10
For the safest used buy, the 2016 model posts the highest confirmed score of 6/10.
Should I buy a used GMC Yukon XL now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.08% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −13.35%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35.4%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $56,615. The GMC Yukon XL offers a spacious third row and a huge cargo area, which are defining strengths across the lineup.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The standard 5.3L V8 is rated at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2L V8 delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: The Yukon XL gets an 8-inch touchscreen with the upgraded IntelliLink system, plus HD and satellite radio, 5 USB ports, an Aux input, an SD slot, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Safety: The Enhanced Driver Alert package adds automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

These are great now they are coming down in price. For the most part the GMT900 platform is rock solid. There are some quirky things that come with this platform, nothing major. Make sure to keep up on the maintenance and ensure all fluids are full. I’ve had 3 units Silverado, Tahoe and Yukon xl combined mileage around 500k. By far the lowest cost used vehicle to own. The only serious bad thing about these and reason for 3 stars is the body. GM didn’t use any rust preventative or e-coated panels anywhere on these. Rust forms in the rockers and wheel openings. I know I mentioned maintenance above but make sure to keep up on maintenance and oil changes by 5k miles regardless of what the oil life monitor says. Change tout the battery every couple of years, the accessories are power hungry and kill batteries.

CarGurus recommends the 2024 GMC Yukon XL

Summary
With 121 currently listed for sale near San Francisco, CA and an average price of $71,539, 26.4% of 2024 GMC Yukons XLs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 GMC Yukon XL 4.6 / 5 stars.
95.9% of 2024 Yukon XL models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 GMC Yukon XL stands out as a full-size SUV built around space, comfort, and flexibility. Its long-wheelbase design adds more than a foot between the front and rear axles, which translates into extra room for third-row passengers and a larger cargo area. It also benefits from the independent rear suspension introduced in this generation, a change that improved ride and handling while helping create a more comfortable third row and additional cargo capacity. For buyers who need a large SUV that can carry people and gear without feeling as old-fashioned as earlier versions, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
For 2024, the Yukon XL also received updated exterior styling and an upgraded infotainment system. The lineup includes a standard 5.3L V8 engine, with a 6.2L V8 and a 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine available as options, all paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The model’s appeal is broadened by its range of trims and available equipment, from wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to features such as a power sliding center console, four-corner air ride adaptive suspension, and advanced driver-assistance technology on higher trims. That breadth makes the Yukon XL feel both practical and upscale.
Its strengths are clear: plenty of cargo space, a spacious third row, and multiple powertrains. The tradeoffs are just as important, though, since the Yukon XL still carries the drawbacks common to large truck-based SUVs, including poor fuel economy and handling that trails car-based crossovers. Even so, the 2024 GMC Yukon XL remains distinctive because it combines genuine full-size utility with a more refined ride and a long list of available comfort and convenience features.
