CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Toyota Tacoma
overall

Summary
With 8,534 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,688.00, 33.2% of 2024 Toyota Tacomas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Toyota Tacoma 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
91.5% of 2024 Tacoma models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma marks the start of the model’s fourth generation with a ground-up redesign. It is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra, and it launches in six trim levels, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Those changes make this Tacoma feel like a more substantial reset than a routine update, while still keeping the truck’s familiar appeal intact.
What stands out most is how well the 2024 Toyota Tacoma balances its reputation for reliability with strong off-road capability and standard advanced driver-assistance tech. That combination gives it broad appeal for buyers who want a midsize pickup that feels capable and well equipped from the start. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: the cabin can be noisy, manual-adjust seats can be troublesome, and the interior still skews functional even in the top trim.

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Wow, what a vehicle. It rides as smooth as a Camry. The engineers at Toyota really produced a unique, powerful truck thats affordable. I bought the supersonic red and it is beautiful, plus all my friends and acquaintances love the looks. I get a lot of stares from people.

The model’s appeal comes from a ground-up redesign, a new platform shared with the larger Toyota Tundra, and a standard turbocharged four-cylinder across six trim levels. That gives you a midsize pickup that feels more substantial and more modern than the outgoing truck while keeping the Tacoma’s familiar identity.
The trade-offs are real, though: the cabin can be noisy, manual-adjust seats can be troublesome, and the interior still leans functional even in the top trim. For you, that means the Tacoma makes the most sense if you value capability, reliability, and a well-equipped starting point more than plushness.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Tacoma’s reliability case is reinforced by its reputation for longevity and by the way Toyota has updated the truck without abandoning its core strengths. The new turbocharged four-cylinder, standard disc brakes, and electric power steering are all part of a more modern package, but the truck still aims to deliver the durability buyers expect from the nameplate.
The performance notes also point to a truck that feels sorted in everyday use, with smooth shifts from the eight-speed automatic and no delay changing gears at highway speeds. Toyota’s first-ever hybrid powertrain is mentioned as part of the broader fourth-generation plan, but the gas-only truck already reflects a more mature and capable setup.
On the cost side, Toyota’s reputation for longevity is paired with a fuel-economy improvement over the prior generation, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership strain. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a truck with more complex modern tech can cost more to keep in top shape if it has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a truck that may have seen towing, off-road use, or heavy commuting. Focus on cabin condition, seat operation, and how the truck feels over rough pavement, since the interior and ride quality are the main areas where this Tacoma can fall short.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SR uses 17-inch steel wheels, while most trims move to 17-inch alloys and TRD Sport and Limited get 18-inch alloys. The cabin is still function-first, and even the Limited trim keeps a rugged, utility-focused look rather than a luxury feel.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on most trims, while the base SR is tuned to 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are both available, and the eight-speed automatic is the transmission to prioritize if you want the easiest daily driving.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all but the base trim, where it can be added as part of a package.
- Infotainment: The standard screen is 8 inches, higher trims get a 14-inch center display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. A Qi wireless charging pad, dual front-row USB-C ports, and an optional JBL sound system are also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The least-efficient version is expected to get 20 mpg combined, with 4WD and the automatic estimated at up to 21 mpg and FWD at 23 mpg.
Which 2024 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pre-Runner.
Here's the short version:
- SR: This is the entry point, and it gives you the new turbocharged engine, standard safety tech, and the basics of the redesigned Tacoma. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
- SR5: This trim is the better everyday pick if you want a more balanced setup without jumping too far in price. It should suit you if you want a practical middle ground between the bare-bones SR and the more specialized trims.
- TRD Sport: This is the trim to consider if you want a more road-focused feel and a more upscale wheel setup than the lower trims. It adds a stronger visual and chassis identity without pushing into the more specialized off-road territory.
- TRD Off-Road: This is the best fit if you want the Tacoma’s capability-first character and plan to use it on rougher terrain. It stands out for buyers who care more about trail readiness than appearance alone.
- Limited: This is the most comfort-oriented choice in the gas lineup, with heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats and an available adaptive variable suspension. It is the best-value trim if you want the most polished daily-driver experience.
- TRD Pre-Runner: This trim is part of the lineup but is not described in enough detail here to make it the default recommendation over the better-defined options above.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all but the base trim, so that’s an important safety-package upgrade to keep in mind as you move up the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,803 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $37,866.16, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
The current average of $38,688 sits slightly below last year's $39,796.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward from a year ago, which can help you buy more confidently now. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your near-term depreciation may be more noticeable than it would be in a tighter market.
Even so, the Tacoma’s strong reputation and broad appeal should help support demand over time. Trucks with this level of buyer interest tend to hold attention better than less established rivals, especially when they’re well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma safe?
It earns 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it now includes Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Proactive Driving Assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system. Adaptive cruise control is also enhanced with four following-distance settings, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all but the base trim.
That gives you a strong standard safety package, especially for a midsize pickup. The main caveat is that official crash-test ratings were not yet available in the source material, so you should weigh the truck’s standard driver-assistance tech more heavily than any rating-based conclusion.
Should I buy a 2024 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The fourth-generation redesign brings a new platform, a standard turbocharged engine, and much stronger standard tech.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $36,424, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $38,688 average.
- It remains a compact and midsize truck with a long-earned reputation for reliability.
The bottom line: If you want the more modern Tacoma with stronger standard tech, better power, and a full redesign, the 2024 is the better long-term pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable giving up the newer platform and updated equipment, the 2023 is the value play.
