CarGurus Analysis: 2024 BMW 7 Series
overall

Summary
With 642 currently listed for sale and an average price of $68,567, 34.4% of 2024 BMW 7 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 BMW 7 Series 3.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
91.0% of 2024 BMW 7 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 BMW 7 Series stands out as BMW’s full-size flagship sedan, and it aims to blend luxury, speed, and efficiency in one package. It also brings a distinctive look that will not appeal to everyone, and its digital systems remain frustratingly complex. Even so, it offers a spacious, luxurious cabin and potent powertrain options, which help explain its appeal to buyers looking for a high-end sedan with broad capability.
For 2024, BMW added the plug-in hybrid 750e and lightly updated the infotainment system. The 750e brings more power and efficiency than the low-end 740i, but it costs more, has a disjointed driving personality, and quickly uses up its electric charge. The 2024 7 Series also offers features such as a rear-seat theatre and cashmere upholstery, along with performance and fuel efficiency that are often superior to most rivals, though its overly complex infotainment and uneven PHEV performance remain notable drawbacks.

Unfortunately, the front end re-style is not as attractive as the prior car (2020-2022) and the dash layout looks like a Mercedes. Think Ill be keeping my 2020 750i which is a fantastic car. One of the best Ive ever owned. As a frame of reference Ive had Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Ferrari and more. The 750i is the most serene ride ever.

It is a beautiful car with great feature s and amazing technology. The ride was great minus the little road noise but the great audio system take care of that. Its 4 out of 5 car aesthetically, and with its options and functions.

It’s a mixed but compelling choice if you want a full-size luxury sedan with strong capability and a standout cabin. The user rating is 3.5/5, and the expert rating is 6.67/10.
The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.
The 2024 7 Series brings a spacious, luxurious cabin and potent powertrain options, and it also offers features such as a rear-seat theatre and cashmere upholstery. Those strengths make it appealing if you want a high-end sedan that can cover comfort, speed, and efficiency in one package.
The trade-offs are real: the infotainment system is frustratingly complex, and the plug-in hybrid 750e adds power and efficiency but also a disjointed driving personality. That means you’re getting a lot of luxury and capability, but you should be comfortable living with a steep learning curve in the controls.
34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 BMW 7 Series reliable?
The 2024 7 Series is presented as a robust, well-engineered flagship with systems that work smoothly and reliably. BMW’s active safety and driver-assistance features are described as operating unobtrusively, and the car’s crash structures are noted as robust.
The plug-in hybrid 750e adds complexity to the ownership picture, especially because its brake and throttle transitions can feel inconsistent around town. BMW also says the battery can be charged on Level 2 AC power, but it cannot use DC fast charging.
BMW’s standard active safety suite includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. More advanced features are bundled into optional packages rather than included across the lineup.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s sophistication can make repairs and ownership more expensive if you skip careful pre-purchase inspection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 7 Series?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report, verify service records, and prioritize a thorough inspection of the electronics, driver-assistance features, and cabin controls. Because this is a complex luxury sedan, condition matters as much as mileage, especially if you’re considering a higher-spec car with more equipment.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin presentation varies widely with color, materials, and option choices, and the base setup leaves room for upgrades such as richer upholstery, the rear-seat theatre, and more dramatic interior finishes.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a turbocharged inline-six, a V8, and a plug-in hybrid. The 750e adds strong torque and efficiency, but its around-town behavior is less polished than the gas models.
- Safety package: BMW’s standard suite includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Surround view monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automated parking assist, and the partially automated highway assistant are bundled into optional packages.
- Infotainment: The display combines a 12.3-inch driver’s screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, but the system remains menu-heavy and complex.
- Fuel efficiency: The 750e is rated at 65 MPGe and 25 mpg combined, while the 740i and 760i are rated at 28 mpg combined and 20 mpg combined, respectively.
Which 2024 BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?
The 2024 BMW 7 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 740i, 740i xDrive, 750e xDrive, 760i xDrive.
Here's the short version:
- 740i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 7 Series experience with the turbocharged inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and the same big-luxury-sedan character as the pricier versions. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need all-wheel drive.
- 740i xDrive: This is the best-value trim. It adds all-wheel drive and stronger all-weather confidence while staying below the plug-in hybrid and V8 models on price. If you want the smartest balance of capability and cost, this is the one to target.
- 750e xDrive: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid’s extra power and electric driving capability. It’s quick and efficient, but it costs more and is less polished in everyday driving than the gas models.
- 760i xDrive: This is the choice for maximum performance and the most lavish available equipment. It brings the V8 and the most vigorous driving experience, but it’s the most expensive path by a wide margin.
BMW’s best driver-assistance systems are still optional, so check whether a used example has the Premium package or Driving Assistance Professional Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 7 Series?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 640 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $68,464, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 BMW 7 Series's resale value?
The current average of $68,464 sits slightly below last year's $80,908.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means you should expect depreciation pressure to remain part of the ownership equation.
For a future seller, the upside is that the 7 Series still occupies a high-end luxury niche with strong equipment and broad capability. The downside is that expensive flagship sedans often lose value quickly, especially when newer model years bring fresh tech and updated features.
Is the 2024 BMW 7 Series safe?
The 2024 BMW 7 Series has not yet been crash-tested by either IIHS or NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
BMW equips the 7 Series with a broad standard safety suite that includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. More advanced systems, including surround view monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automated parking assist, and partially automated highway assistance, are available in optional packages.
The main caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance features cost extra, so you’ll want to confirm equipment carefully on any used example.
Should I buy a 2024 BMW 7 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.38% compared with last year.
- BMW added the plug-in hybrid 750e and lightly updated the infotainment system.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $61,800, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $68,464 average.
- It blends comfort, luxury, and performance with strong ride quality and handling.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates and a broader mix of listings, the 2024 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up the latest changes, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
