The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge is a small, all-electric crossover. It has head-turning style, a world-class interior design, and a powerful EV powertrain. The C40 was introduced as an all-new model for the 2022 model year. It carries over into 2023 with an expanded trim lineup and new packages and options. It provides seating for five and up to 49 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded.

Volvo has added the entry-level Core trim and mid-tier Plus trim for 2023; they join the range-topping Ultimate trim. The Core trim comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also comes with a fully digital instrument panel, a sport steering wheel, remote keyless entry, a high-performance audio system, and a power tailgate. The C40 comes standard with a 9-inch center touchscreen in a portrait orientation. It runs a Google-based infotainment system and includes standard Apple CarPlay. This system also comes with four years of complimentary Google Play store.

Moving up to the Plus trim adds fog lights, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, power-folding rear head restraints, a rear cargo organizer, a 360-degree parking monitor, and front and rear parking sensors.

The range-topping Ultimate trim includes 20-inch alloy wheels, headlight cleaners, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and a Harmon Kardon premium stereo system.

The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge features a 78-kWh battery pack supporting front and rear electric motors. Together, they make a combined 402 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The C40 Recharge has a range of 226 miles and can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Thanks to DC fast charging, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 37 minutes.

Standard driver-assistance features on the 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge include forward collision avoidance, oncoming lane collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Ultimate trim adds adaptive cruise control and Pilot Assist. The latter keeps the C40 centered in the lane of traffic and can maintain a set speed and distance from the vehicle in front of it.

Base MSRP for the 2023 Volvo C40 is $55,300 for the Core trim. The Plus starts at $56,850, and the range-topping Ultimate starts at $60,100. The C40 is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty. Its battery is backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
