About 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
Volkswagen introduced the Atlas in 2018 as a three-row kid carrier, and it quickly became one of the automaker’s more popular models. Shortly after, the Atlas Cross Sport showed up as a beefier-looking two-row SUV. It enters 2023 with no significant changes. The 2023 Atlas Cross Sport is available in five trims: SE,SE-Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line. It gets the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that powers [__its three-row sibling__](https://www.cargurus.com/research/2023-Volkswagen-Atlas-c32495), producing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. VW also offers a 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines, and the SUV can be had with front-or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD). Despite its sportier stance, the Atlas Cross Sport is no sportier than the Atlas. The four-cylinder performs decently around town but loses grunt at higher speeds, especially when passing on the highway. Though it’s stronger, the V6 still feels short of the power it needs for a vehicle of this size. The Cross Sport’s suspension maintains a smooth ride in most situations and helps the SUV feel planted when the roads turn curvy. The base 2023 Cross Sport gets synthetic leather upholstery and heated front seats, but higher trims add genuine leather, ventilated seats, and more. With the second-row seats folded flat, the 2023 Atlas Cross Sport offers 77.8 cubic feet of cargo space, making it one of the roomiest vehicles in its class. A power liftgate is available, and the SUV’s wide rear opening makes it easy to load and unload gear. Volkswagen made its Digital Cockpit Pro system standard starting with the SE-Technology trim for the 2023 Atlas Cross Sport. It runs on a 10.25-inch display and offers highly configurable menus and features. The driver can view full-color, zoomable maps and other information, such as audio playlists and vehicle performance stats. A 6.5-inch touchscreen comes with the base SE trim, bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth, USB inputs, and six speakers are also standard. An 8-inch display is available, which offers wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Other optional features include HD radio, SiriusXM, wireless charging, navigation, ambient interior lighting, and more. The 2023 Atlas Cross Sport missed out on a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It earned “Good” scores in all crash test categories but only picked up. “Basic” ratings for its front-crash-prevention systems. The headlights were rated “Good” or “Marginal,” depending on the trim, and the LATCH system (car seat anchors) were rated “Marginal” for being located too deep in the seat to be easily reachable. The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is on sale now with a starting price of $35,755, which includes a $1,295 destination charge. The top SEL Premium R-Line trim starts at $53,315. Buyers can upgrade lower trim levels with features such as a $1,200 panoramic sunroof, but top trims are only offered with accessories.
