CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Lexus ES

Summary
With 1,044 currently listed for sale and an average price of $39,014, 35.1% of 2023 Lexus ES models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Lexus ES 5 / 5 stars.
85.4% of 2023 ES models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Lexus ES stands out as a luxury sedan that prioritizes comfort, quietness, and an easygoing driving experience over flash or aggression. It is based on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and the redesign brought increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. Lexus also moved the seating position lower and further back, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom. The styling is more expressive than before, with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
For 2023, Lexus introduced the F Sport Design, which dropped the adaptive dampers and sportier suspension tune. The ES 350 came with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 producing 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, while the ES 300h hybrid paired a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a CVT for a combined 215 hp. Standard equipment on the base ES included synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full suite of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Available options included a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, triple-beam LED headlights, a digital key, and a wide range of driver-assistance features.
That mix of comfort, equipment, and safety helps explain the ES’s appeal, especially for buyers who want a refined sedan with strong value. At the same time, the ES remains tuned primarily for smoothness rather than aggressive acceleration, and it is not especially inspiring to drive or look at.

Downsized from BMW 540i for more comforts but still decent pop/handling. ALL main cabin features of BMW transferred to Lexus ES though some learning on new systems will be required. Great the control pad on the console has been replaced in 2023. Saved roughly $20K upfront with Lexus plus more ongoing with regular, not premium, fuel. ES hybrid would have saved even more ongoing but I was not ready to take that drastic of a performance drop yet.

The 2023 Lexus ES is described as a reliable, comfortable, and well-equipped luxury sedan that focuses on ease of use and a calm driving experience. For used buyers, that usually means lower drama over time if you choose a well-kept example and stay on top of maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Lexus ES?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report to confirm accident status, title status, and service consistency. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, electronics, and signs of wear that can matter more on a comfort-first luxury sedan. Pay close attention to how the car presents overall, since condition and maintenance history are especially important when you want a refined used luxury car.

What is the 2023 Lexus ES's resale value?

That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, which can help support resale confidence if you buy carefully. A stable-to-rising price trend is usually a good sign for future sellers because it indicates ongoing demand rather than a softening market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Lexus ES or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.95% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $35,517, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,869 average.
- It offers multiple powertrain choices for buyers who want more flexibility.
The bottom line:
You should lean toward the 2023 if you want the newer model-year pricing context, strong deal availability, and a comfort-first luxury sedan with broad appeal. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2022 is the better secondary path because it comes in below the current year's average and still delivers the ES's core comfort-focused character.
