The 2022 Rolls-Royce Phantom is the absolute pinnacle of contemporary motoring opulence. There may have been more lavish vehicles in the past, but you won’t find a modern car that manages to encapsulate the classic ideal of automotive luxury quite like the Phantom. The Phantom was once offered in sedan, coupe, and convertible variants, but today, it’s only offered as a stately sedan.

The Phantom announces its arrival with the upright front end, boasting its colonnade-like grille and the “Spirit of Ecstasy” hood ornament. It features the iconic rear-hinged coach doors and provides 19 cubic feet of trunk space—not a tremendous amount for a vehicle of its size. For 2022, the Phantom is largely unchanged. Rolls-Royce does add an available feature called Privacy Suite; it’s a high-tech take on the traditional limousine divider and features electrochromatic glass and an intercom system with the driver.

There are standard and extended-wheelbase variants of the Phantom. Each comes equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels with self-centering wheel hubs, power-closing doors with integrated umbrella holsters, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a 16-speaker premium stereo, a fully digital instrument panel, and a remote-operated 10.25-inch infotainment display. In addition to the seemingly endless points of bespoke customization, buyers can select options such as dual rear-seat 12-inch digital screens. Another package includes 22-inch wheels, wider rear seats, rear window curtains, and elevated rear footrests.

Under that stately hood, the Phantom comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12 engine. It makes 563 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Even weighing more than 5,500 pounds, the Phantom will go from zero to 60 mph in roughly 4.5 seconds. On the other hand, this powertrain returns fuel economy of 12 mpg city, 20 highway, and 14 combined. All this heft feels effortless thanks to the V12 engine as well as the standard self-leveling air suspension.

The Phantom comes equipped with forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, a head-up display, front-and-rear parking sensors, and a surround-view parking camera. An options package adds adaptive cruise control and night vision to the suite of safety technology.

Base MSRP for the 2022 Rolls-Royce Phantom is roughly $460,000. The Phantom Extended starts at about $550,000. The myriad packages and personalization options can add tens of thousands to those prices. The Phantom is backed by a powertrain warranty that covers four years and unlimited miles, and it includes complementary maintenance over that time as well.
