The 2022 BMW X6 M brings coupe styling and performance to a midsize crossover. It has a fastback profile that evokes the athleticism of a sports car and backs it up with acceleration and cornering abilities that you’ll have a hard time believing come from an SAV, or Sport Activity Vehicle, in BMW parlance.

Behind the aggressive twin-kidney grille of the X6 M, a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 makes 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. A Competition Package is available that raises output to 617 hp (torque is unchanged). An eight-speed automatic transmission with manual mode routes power to BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD). Drivers can also modify the drivetrain, steering, and suspension within Road, Sport, and Track drive modes. The X6 M Competition is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, according to BMW. Both versions return an EPA estimated 13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined.

Standard equipment includes full Merino leather upholstery, heated front seats, heated armrests, an Alcantara headliner, and carbon-fiber interior accents. Other standard features include 21-inch alloy wheels, performance tires, and a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon premium stereo. The cabin is dominated by a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high beams. Buyers can also select adaptive cruise control that can follow lane markings and flow of traffic.

The 2022 BMW X6 M has a starting price of $108,600. The Competition Package costs an additional $9,000. An available Executive Package costs $3,600 and adds features such as remote start, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, soft-close automatic doors, heated-and-cooled cupholders, and a massaging function for the front seats.
