The Q8 is Audi’s flagship SUV. Its higher number does not correspond with size—it’s smaller than the longer-running Q7 in most dimensions—but it does come with a higher price tag. The Audi Q8 is a crossover coupe, meant to marry the practicality and capability of an SUV with the handling and refinement of a sedan. Essentially, the Q8 could be considered a sportier and more stylized version of the Q7. Because the sportier looks demand a sloping roofline, it cannot fit the third row that the Q7 offers. The upside, in addition to its looks, is that this gives the Q8 more default cargo space at max capacity: it has 30.5 cubic feet of cargo volume with the second row in use, as opposed to 15 in the Q7 when the third row is occupied. The 2021 Audi Q8 is available in three trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. All 2021 Audi Q8s are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. All have Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) system, and power is routed to the wheels through an eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The Q8 gets fuel economy of 18 mpg city, 23 highway, and 20 combined. With the Towing Package, it’s capable of towing up to 7,700 pounds. The Premium trim comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, while Premium Plus has 21-inch alloy wheels. The available Exterior Black Optic package adds 21-inch wheels and black exterior trim to Premium models, and the S Line Package provides two-tone 21-inch alloy wheels, illuminated door sills, and elements of the Black Optic passage to Premium Plus and Prestige trims. All Audi Q8s get tri-zone climate control, built-in navigation, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster, and LED headlights with automatic high beams. A Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. For 2021, blind-spot monitoring was added to the list of standard safety features, which also includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The Convenience package for the base Premium trim adds wireless phone charging, a heated steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, and a top-view, 360-degree camera system, among other things. The heated steering wheel is standard for Premium Plus, but Audi suggests other upgrades may be in order: The Executive Package for the Premium Plus trim includes adaptive cruise control, the HD Matrix-design LED headlights that grace the RS Q8, heated rear seats, and leather-upholstered armrests. Premium Plus models gets a Bang & Olufsen audio system, auto-dimming and power-folding side mirrors, and a heated steering wheel, which is new for 2021. Q8 Prestige models get additional driver-assistance features, including a head-up display, and they also get a leather-covered dashboard. The 2021 Audi Q8 is on sale now. The base trim, Premium, starts at $68,200 before destination fees. Premium Plus starts at $72,500, and the range-topping Prestige trim starts at $77,850. The Audi Q8 comes with a four-year/50,000 basic warranty.
