CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Acura RDX
overall

Summary
With 1,284 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,744, 34.3% of 2021 Acura RDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Acura RDX 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
80.6% of 2021 RDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Acura RDX stands out as a compact luxury crossover SUV that blends size, utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value into an appealing package. It also reflects Acura’s latest exterior styling and interior design philosophies, along with the completely rethought True Touch Interface infotainment system, giving it a more modern feel than its predecessor. Acura says the RDX is the bestselling model in its segment and one of the bestselling luxury vehicles in America, which helps explain its broad appeal.
Behind the wheel, the 2021 Acura RDX is notable for great handling, and it is also described as comfortable. Those strengths make it attractive to buyers who want a luxury SUV that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability. The value proposition is another major draw, with the RDX singled out for excellent value for money.
There are tradeoffs, though. The technology is described as unintuitive, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the 2021 Acura RDX remains compelling because it combines a polished cabin, strong driving dynamics, and a well-rounded overall character in a segment where those qualities matter a great deal.

Confident, quick, and clean — the right move I bought a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec after a long stretch of research, quotes, and test drives. Came from a 2015 Mazda6—solid, efficient—but I was ready for something with more presence and power. The RDX gave me that without stepping into overpriced territory. The turbo delivers. Paired with the 10-speed, it moves when I need it, cruises when I don’t. Sport mode plus paddles gives just enough edge without trying too hard. The ride feels tight and grounded, and the A-Spec trim looks clean and confident—no chrome, no fluff. Inside, it’s a clear step up. Ultrasuede, ambient lighting, panoramic roof—it feels elevated, not loud. The ELS Studio sound system is better than I expected, no exaggeration. Fuel economy is lower than my old Mazda. I’m averaging 23–24 mpg mixed, which is fair for an AWD turbo, but it’s a drop. I expected it, but it’s worth noting. The button shifter is fine, but the tray underneath it is a catch-and-forget zone. I’ve left my phone in there more than once because of how tucked away it is. Not a flaw, just an adjustment. Same with the seat moving back when I shut the car off. Lighting fades, dash does a little goodbye animation. I’ve never had a car do all that before. It’s subtle, but now I notice. No issues with the infotainment or CarPlay. I plug in, it works. I’m not paying extra for AcuraLink remote start when the fob does the job just fine. Overall, this RDX feels like a clean step forward. It’s fast when I want it, quiet when I need it, and doesn’t feel like it’s trying to impress anyone. It just handles its business. I’d buy it again.

Great pick up speed and acceleration for an SUV, love the AWD

This car gets high marks for interior design, efficient use of space and comfort. On the other hand fuel economy is pretty poor considering vehicle size and throttle response. What is really disappointing is the impact of the noise canceling technology on the ability of the paying customer to control the sound of the audio system. If you want more bass tones you are out of luck. The more you turn the bass up the more the system cancels it out and the worse it sounds. Acura should just build a quiet car to begin with and not rely on electronic mumbo jumbo.

We decided between Lexus and Acura. Though Lexus scores just above in reliability and ease of tech features we chose the Acura RDX. The Lexus RX was too big and the NX too small for our needs and the Acura RDX was just the right in between size of those two cars. It has very good trunk space with even more storage underneath. There are levers in the trunk to let down the seats (a feature missing on the Lexus, if you are not tall you have to go to the backseat to let them down.) The seats also lay flat as opposed to quite an angle on the Lexus. The passenger seat on the Acura has all the same power comfort adjustments as the driver seat, we couldn’t find one Lexus with that, not even on the luxury trim. Acura also makes is easy to know what is in the car because all their trim levels have a sameset of features so looking for a used car was much easier than Lexus because though Lexus has trim levels customers can add on individual features that don’t come on the trim so you never know if what you are looking for is on the car . Even at the luxury level we could not find an NX with 360 view or Heads-up. I am sure they are out there just pretty hard to find. On the Acura we knew the Advanced package always had those features so it made looking easier. I also like that Acura has left the dead space underneath the console open for a bit more storage space, you can fit a small purse there. Dead space on the Lexus. So for those reasons we chose the Acura over the Lexus. However they are both very nice cars and I will say all the Lexus Dealerships we went to were superior in their customer service! We just liked the Acura car better.

| Year-Round Low | $26,966.43 |
| Year-Round High | $28,929.59 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,872 |

There are 1,284 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $26,966.43, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Acura RDX earns a 4.69/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its value, comfort, and fun driving experience, and they also call out the spacious interior and stylish design. Those themes line up with the RDX’s use case as a compact luxury crossover that aims to balance utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value. The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and limited cargo space, so you should weigh those against how much you value driving enjoyment and upscale feel.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle you can count on for comfort, value, and a generally trouble-free ownership experience, with many shoppers also highlighting its strong long-term appeal through its spacious cabin and enjoyable driving character. The expert evaluation reinforces that dependable feel by describing the RDX as smooth, accurate, and refined in how its systems operate. Acura also includes the first scheduled maintenance visit on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about living with the technology and making sure the vehicle has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura RDX?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the infotainment behavior, brake feel, tire wear, and overall cabin condition. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort, value, and technology, you’ll want to make sure the specific vehicle you choose still feels tight, quiet, and well-kept.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim starts with AcuraWatch, but it does not include blind-spot warning or rear cross-traffic alert. The Technology Package adds those features, so base-trim shoppers should be especially careful about the safety equipment gap.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and SH-AWD improves handling and can send power rearward for better traction and balance.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim.
- Infotainment: The True Touchpad Interface does not use a touchscreen. It relies on a touchpad controller, and the system is described as distracting and unintuitive even though it mirrors the screen layout.
- Fuel efficiency: Some owners report disappointment with fuel economy, so it is worth factoring that into your ownership expectations.
Which 2021 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2021 Acura RDX is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Technology Package, A-Spec Package, Advance Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the entry point, but you give up blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, so it makes the most sense only if you are focused on the lowest purchase price and are comfortable with the leaner safety equipment.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value trim because it adds the missing blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert while keeping the RDX’s core strengths intact.
- A-Spec Package: Choose this if you want the sportiest look and feel, including front sport seats, a sport steering wheel, unique gauges, and a more aggressive cabin presentation.
- Advance Package: Pick this if you want the most complete luxury setup, including the extras that push the RDX toward its most upscale and fully equipped form.
The safety-package gap at the base trim is the key trim-level issue to keep in mind.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura RDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing into the first decent listing.
- Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,284 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,966.43, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $27,734 sits slightly below last year's $28,872.
That softer pricing suggests the model has moved into a more buyer-friendly position, which can help you if you are shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the current market still shows healthy demand, and well-kept examples should remain attractive to future shoppers. Strong value perception and broad appeal usually help a luxury crossover hold attention over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX safe?
The SUV earned a 2020 calendar-year Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. It also earns four-star frontal-impact and four-star rollover resistance crash-test ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard on every RDX and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim, so you need to move up to the Technology Package at a minimum to get them. The system is also described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined than Acura’s setup in the outgoing MDX, which should make it easier for you to use regularly.
Should I buy a 2021 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong handling, value, and safety with Acura’s updated design direction.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $24,884, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $27,734 average.
- It delivers a lot of content for the money.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $31,537, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,734 average.
- It adds fresh styling, a quieter cabin, and more equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the better value play. If you want newer updates and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is the upgrade path to consider.
