Overview

Kia’s Cadenza is a 5-passenger sedan designed to serve buyers looking for a car more full-featured than standard midsize sedans (think Toyota Camry or Nissan Altima) without tipping into the cost of full-fledged luxury cars. It is freshened for the 2020 model year with revised exterior and interior styling and new driver-assist systems.
Outside, the Cadenza receives a new hood and grille with a redesigned front fascia, and a new rear bumper and trunk lid. LED headlights and taillights are standard, and the base 18-inch wheels are also restyled.
Most changes, however, are to the Cadenza’s interior. A redesigned dash and instrument cluster now place the audio controls above the ventilation switchgear. A 4.2-inch color display is incorporated into the instrument panel, while a 12.3-inch touchscreen is used for the infotainment system. Two new Nappa leather finishes are available for seating surfaces in the upper trim level, and there are three additional USB ports as well as a 10-watt wireless fast charger for smartphones. Remote start is now standard, too.
A suite of new driver-assist features is standard on every 2020 Cadenza. It includes forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and automatic high beams. Lane-keeping assist and blind-spot warning are included, as is Kia’s Highway Driving Assist feature, which can adjust the vehicle’s speed to match the posted speed limit. Navigation is standard and now incorporates the ability to lower vehicle speed to match upcoming curves.
Two trims are available: Technology and Limited. Both are powered by the same 3.3-liter V6 that powered last year’s Cadenza. It’s rated at 290 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque and drives the front wheel through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Technology trim includes a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and an eight-way adjustable front-passenger seat. Heated front seats are standard but the rear seats don’t fold in any Cadenza, which hampers cargo space flexibility. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, as is multi-device Bluetooth connectivity. Carryover driver-assist features include rear parking sensors and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Limited trim adds 19-inch wheels, a power-operated tilt/telescope steering column, Nappa quilted leather seats and additional power-operated adjustments for the driver’s and front-passenger seats. The front seats add a ventilation function and the rear outboard seats are heated. The audio system is upgraded to a 630-watt, 12-speaker Harman Kardon system, and a surround-view monitor is added to the list of driver-assist features.
Though the Cadenza exists in a largely unoccupied segment of semi-luxury cars somewhere between standard midsize sedans and luxury sedans, it’s worth checking out competitors like the Toyota Avalon and Nissan Maxima, both of which offer similar size and features for approximately the same cost.
