CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 253 currently listed for sale near New York, NY and an average price of $23,604, 45.1% of 2020 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
100.0% of 2020 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler stands out first for its identity: it is an American 4x4 icon with military roots and millions of miles of trails traversed. That heritage gives it a kind of brand recognition few vehicles can match, and it remains appealing to buyers who want a rugged, trail-focused SUV rather than a soft-road crossover. The Wrangler also offers multiple powertrain options and strong off-road capability, which helps explain why it continues to attract shoppers looking for something distinctive and purpose-built.
For 2020, Jeep adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, giving it newfound grunt. That change is aimed at broadening the Wrangler’s appeal, especially for buyers who want more muscle from the Unlimited. Even so, the model’s biggest drawback remains fuel economy: Jeep’s off-road focus still comes with poor efficiency, and the new diesel is described as a wash when it comes to your wallet. Owners also tend to value the rugged design and off-road ability, while some note the absence of certain features like adaptive cruise control and mention noise as a downside.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

This jeep is beautiful. I loved everything about it. The only reason I haven’t bought it is the engine size. I’m needing a 6 cylinder.

We went to look at it and found corrosion present. Something that should have been fixed by now.

How much does the 2020 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,620 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,620 |
| Year-Round High | $29,154 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,152 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.11% |
Prices have softened 12.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,895 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.38/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the rugged design, off-road capability, and the Wrangler’s distinctive, purpose-built character. The review summary also points to comfort and modern features like heated seats as welcome surprises for a Wrangler.
The trade-offs are familiar: fuel economy is a common complaint, and some owners dislike the lack of features such as adaptive cruise control. The overview also frames this as a trail-focused SUV rather than a soft-road crossover, so it makes the most sense if you value capability and personality over refinement.
With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively without feeling rushed.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in the ways that matter to them: rugged design, off-road capability, and a sense that it can handle the lifestyle it was built for. The expert notes also reinforce that this is a purpose-built SUV with strong trail credentials and a clear identity.
The diesel powertrain adds extra torque and makes highway passing and low-speed crawling easier, which supports the Wrangler’s long-term usefulness if that matches your driving habits. The cost-effectiveness notes also say the diesel’s economics are close to a wash, so ownership risk is less about mechanical fragility here and more about whether the vehicle’s fuel and usage profile fits your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, modifications, and whether the vehicle has been used the way a Wrangler often is. Condition matters a lot here, especially if you want a clean example that still feels tight and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is extremely bare-bones, with manual windows and locks, a 5-inch touchscreen, and little else. The Sport S adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry, while the Sahara brings a more upscale feel with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, and bigger brakes. The Rubicon is the most off-road-focused choice, with a lifted suspension and mud-terrain tires.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, a turbocharged 4-cylinder with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft, or a new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft. The diesel stands out for its torque and stronger low-speed and highway performance.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
- Infotainment: The Sport and Sport S use a basic 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. The Sahara and Rubicon come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and an available 8.4-inch system adds navigation, HD Radio, real-time traffic and weather updates, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and an Alpine premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The most efficient gas version returns 21 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the most stripped-down version, with manual windows and locks, a 5-inch touchscreen, eight speakers, and very little extra comfort equipment. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and plan to build from there.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. It also opens the door to the Technology Package and Cold Weather Group, which make the Wrangler much easier to live with.
- Sahara: This is the more upscale choice, with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, and standard content from the Technology Package. It suits you best if you want a Wrangler that feels more polished without going all the way to the Rubicon.
- Rubicon: This is the most serious off-road trim, with a lifted suspension, mud-terrain tires, and additional mechanical upgrades. It is the right pick if trail performance matters more to you than everyday comfort.
The safety packages are worth adding, especially because the Wrangler’s sightlines can be awkward and the available driver-assistance features fill important gaps.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,895 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,620, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $25,620 sits slightly below last year's $29,152.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who bought when prices were higher.
The Wrangler’s strong identity and loyal following help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
That said, the Wrangler’s awkward sightlines make the available driver-assistance features especially valuable, and you should pay close attention to which safety package a used example has. If you want the most confidence in daily driving, prioritize a truck with the added safety equipment rather than relying on the standard setup alone.
Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, giving you more torque and stronger low-speed performance.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,130, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,620 average.
- It adds a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and a Hemi V8.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the more attractive buy because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for newer powertrain choices, the 2021 is the better path for buyers who want something more distinctive.
