The Audi A7 is a luxury 4-door coupe similar to the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. Beneath the A7’s sleek exterior lies seating for 5 occupants. Unlike its competitors, it features a rear liftgate instead of a trunk, allowing for impressive cargo capacity with the rear seat up. The A7 received a full redesign for 2019, so 2020 brings no notable changes.

The A7 is a mild hybrid (MHEV) with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and a 48-volt electrical system. All in, the system is good for 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and Audi’s quattro unit powers all four wheels. Expect fuel-economy numbers of 22 mpg city, 29 highway and 25 combined, with a 482-mile range between fill-ups with premium fuel.

The A7 comes in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The base Premium trim bundles 19-inch wheels, LED exterior lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, 3-zone automatic climate control, and an 8.8-inch upper and 8.6-inch lower touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, memory seating, keyless access and start, a 40/20/40 split-folding rear seatback, and navigation are also included. Premium LED headlights, a digital instrument cluster, a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, heated and cooled seats, a wireless charger, headlight washers, and power soft-closing doors are among the options across nicer trims.

The A7 packs a strong suite of standard safety equipment. It includes a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing wipers. Rear cross-traffic detection, vehicle-exit warning, a top-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning are extra-cost options. The A7 received excellent scores in a condensed battery of safety tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
