CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 49 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $24,789, 44.9% of 2020 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Acura MDX 4.71 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Acura MDX stands out as Acura’s three-row crossover and as the company’s flag carrier with confidence. It has also built a long-running reputation as the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time, which helps explain its loyal repeat audience.
What makes the 2020 MDX appealing is its well-rounded mix of comfort, convenience, and technology. It offers standard advanced safety features and a spacious cabin, both of which are especially important in a family-focused three-row SUV. At the same time, it is not an industry leader in any single category, and its styling is uninspired while its technology can feel outdated. Even so, the overall package remains attractive for buyers who want a capable luxury crossover that emphasizes practicality and broad appeal.

I really like the Acura MDX. It has MANY extra features on it that make it a safe and comfortable ride, has three rows of seats for major roominess/cargo carrying and I got it at a great price. Its a beautiful SUV. I had a previous MDX for 12 years and literally had 0 major repairs with it. Comparable models are the Lexus RX, which honestly has more responsiveness in handling, but not three row seating unless you pay $10,000 more and also has a rather strange look to it. The closest competition for my money is the BMW X3, which is a smaller 2 row SUV but is very comfortable and has amazing responsiveness in handling. I think visually it is a stunning car. BMWs reliability and cost of repair is concerning to me, but that will probably be my next SUV.

How much does the 2020 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,186 |
| Year-Round Low | $24,158.37 |
| Year-Round High | $26,768.50 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,772 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.66% |
Prices have softened 9.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 963 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and equipment.
If you find a listing below $24,158.37, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Acura MDX earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spacious cabin, safety features, comfort, and power, and the MDX’s family-friendly three-row layout fits that feedback well. The trade-offs are its uninspired styling and outdated technology, which can matter if you want a more modern-feeling luxury SUV. Even so, the overall package is balanced and practical, and 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some shopping leverage.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that owners feel good about living with over time, especially because of its spaciousness, comfort, and power. The expert review also describes the MDX as a well-rounded, competitive package with a loyal repeat audience, which reinforces the sense that it’s a vehicle people tend to keep and trust. Acura’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history match its reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Acura MDX?
At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter in a family SUV: interior wear, third-row usability, and whether the technology and safety equipment work as expected. Because the MDX’s appeal depends so much on comfort and convenience, a clean, well-kept example is worth more than one with cosmetic or electronic issues.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base MDX is nicely equipped, but it lacks the tech extras that define the higher packages. The Technology Package adds navigation, parking sensors, remote start, and premium audio, while the Advance Package adds a surround-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and Head-Up Warning. The Advance Package is the best-value choice if you want the most complete luxury and convenience mix.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The MDX Sport Hybrid uses a 3.0-liter V6 and three electric motors for 321 hp and 289 lb-ft, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added with the Technology Package, and Head-Up Warning comes with the Advance Package.
- Infotainment: The base setup includes an 8.0-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth, text and email capability, five USB ports, SiriusXM, and an eight-speaker audio system. The Technology Package adds navigation and a 9.0-inch screen, while the Advance Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch screen.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, while SH-AWD models get 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway/22 mpg combined. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is rated at 26 mpg city/27 mpg highway/27 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2020 Acura MDX is offered in 3 trim levels: MDX, MDX Technology Package, MDX Advance Package.
Here's the short version:
- MDX: This is the right pick if you want the lowest entry price and still want standard AcuraWatch, CarPlay, Android Auto, and a well-equipped cabin. It gives you the core MDX experience without paying for the extra luxury and convenience features.
- MDX Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, parking sensors, remote start, and premium audio while also bringing blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most useful upgrades without jumping to the priciest version, this is the one to target.
- MDX Advance Package: Choose this if you want the most complete luxury setup, including the surround-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, Head-Up Warning, and the larger 16.2-inch screen. It’s the most feature-rich choice, but you should only pay for it if those comfort and visibility upgrades matter to you.
The Advance Package adds the most safety and convenience equipment, while the Technology Package is the key step up for shoppers who want the strongest overall value.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 963 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,158.37, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $24,186 sits slightly below last year's $26,772.
That price movement suggests the MDX has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. The model’s broad appeal and family-friendly reputation should continue to support demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Acura MDX safe?
The 2020 Acura MDX earns a Good rating from IIHS across all crash-test categories and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Advance Package adds Head-Up Warning. You also get a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, with a surround-view camera on the Advance Package, plus a full set of airbags, stability control, traction control, motion-adaptive steering, and other structural and child-seat safety hardware.
Should I buy a 2020 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 stands out for standard advanced safety features and a well-rounded family-friendly package.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $21,983, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $24,186 average.
- It offers a smooth ride and a spacious interior.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of price movement, inventory, and standard safety, the 2020 is the better primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can be the smarter value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition and can live with its older-feeling tech.
