Mitsubishi’s Outlander Sport carries over largely unchanged for 2019. Changes to the trim levels and feature availability keep this crossover fresh. The Outlander Sport’s exterior features a dark front fascia, wide grille, and large wheel arches. The color palette for 2019 features Labrador Black Metallic, Octane Blue Metallic, Alloy Silver Metallic, Mercury Gray Metallic, Rally Red Metallic, Quartz Brown Metallic, and Pearl White. The Outlander Sport also comes with exterior features like LED daytime-running lights (DRL) and rain-sensing windshield wipers. For 2019, the Outlander Sport offers five trim options: ES, LE, SP, SE, and GT. All trims are available with all-wheel drive (AWD). The base engine, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, delivers 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is available only with the GT, is rated at 168 hp and 167 lb-ft and comes only with the CVT. For fuel-economy returns, the 2.0-liter with FWD and a manual makes 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined, while the 2.0-liter with AWD makes 24, 30, and 27. Swap in the 2.4-liter engine to get 23, 29, and 25 with FWD. With AWD, highway mileage drops by one. Inside, the Outlander Sport offers plenty of cargo space, automatic climate control, and an available leather-wrapped steering wheel for added luxury. The base ES comes equipped with chrome-plated door handles and fabric upholstery. Higher trims include interior details like heated front seats, upgraded upholstery, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a leather shift knob. For technology, the Outlander Sport’s infotainment system, while simple, offers sought-after features. The Outlander Sport ES gets a 7-inch touchscreen system that includes a 4-speaker audio system and HD Radio, while higher trims get an upgraded audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. For 2019, the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Outlander Sport a 4-star overall rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t yet rated the 2019 model, but the 2018 model earned mostly Good scores. For safety features, a reversing camera, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist come on the SE, and the GT adds forward-collision mitigation and lane-departure warning. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, an upgraded crossover, offers many features to compete in the market against other options like the Subaru Crosstrek or the Nissan Rogue Sport.
