How much does the 2019 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 4.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,956 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.71/5 user-rated car with an expert score of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and safety, and they also like its stylish appearance and good fuel economy. For you, that means the Civic fits especially well if you want a compact car that feels polished without giving up everyday practicality. It also stands out for offering unusual variety in the class, with sedan, coupe, and hatchback body styles plus multiple engines and transmissions.

With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert evaluation backs up that impression by describing the Civic as a car that feels built to last. It also notes smooth, refined powertrains and a CVT that avoids the strained behavior you may notice in some rivals. On top of that, the Civic’s overall balance of comfort, performance, and everyday usability supports the case for dependable ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is condition-specific wear, so a careful inspection and maintenance review still matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda Civic?

At 52% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing cars with similar prices but different condition histories. Focus on signs of uneven wear, incomplete maintenance, and any evidence that accident repairs affected fit, finish, or drivability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic’s trim ladder includes LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Si, and Type R, and the biggest feature gaps show up at the lower end. Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R, so you should verify whether the safety suite is included on the car you’re considering.
• Powertrain: LX and Sport sedans and coupes use a 2.0-liter inline-4 with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, while EX and above trims get a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. The hatchback uses the turbo engine across the board, and the Si and Type R add much more power for buyers who want stronger performance.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert with emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R, so those trims are the main safety-package exceptions to watch for.
• Infotainment: The Civic uses an Android-based infotainment system that feels dated and slower than newer Honda setups, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Honda’s Garmin-based navigation is a standout, and LaneWatch is available on certain trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbo engine is described as quicker to respond and better in mid-range acceleration than the base 2.0-liter, and the CVT is praised for staying smooth without the usual high-rev strain or low-speed lugging some CVTs create.

Which 2019 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Si, and Type R.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it gives you the Civic basics without the extra polish and convenience features found higher up the range. It makes sense if your priority is keeping the purchase price down.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more style and a more expressive look without jumping into the pricier turbo-focused trims. If you want a Civic that feels a little more special without overspending, this is the one to look at first.
• EX: This is the trim CarGurus recommends, and it’s the sweet spot if you want the turbo engine, moonroof, power driver’s seat, and touchscreen. It also keeps standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in play, so you don’t need to pay extra for factory navigation.
• EX-L: This trim builds on the EX with more upscale equipment, making it a better fit if you want a more premium-feeling daily driver.
• Si: This is the performance-oriented choice, with a stronger turbo engine and a manual transmission. It suits you if driving enjoyment matters more than comfort-first value.
• Type R: This is the top performance model, with the most power and the most aggressive character in the lineup. It’s for buyers who want the Civic at its most extreme.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R, so safety-minded shoppers should keep that in mind when comparing trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,956 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,153, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $17,449 sits slightly below last year's $18,272.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work in your favor if you’re buying now but may pressure future resale if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, pricing it competitively will matter more than relying on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because the Civic has strong demand and broad shopper interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda Civic safe?

The 2019 Honda Civic earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories except the coupe’s passenger-side frontal crash test, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the Si and Type R, and it includes forward-collision alert with emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. That gives most shoppers a strong built-in safety package without needing to add expensive options. The expert review also notes that the Civic’s crash-prevention features were rated Superior by the IIHS on earlier model years, though the 2019 model itself was not rated.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Civic’s polished feel, broad body-style choice, and strong mix of style, value, and performance.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $18,699, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $17,449 average.
• It adds more standard safety and convenience features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and the model still delivers the Civic formula that shoppers like. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer year with added standard features, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2019 remains the more compelling choice.
