Overview

While Audi already sells Sportback (Audi-speak for a 4-door coupe) versions of the A5 compact executive car and the sportier S5, the RS 5 arrives as a new, more hardcore addition to the lineup. Consider it an RS 5 coupe, but with 2 extra doors, 2.3 extra inches of length, about an inch of extra height, and less than 100 pounds of extra weight despite all that added practicality. Visually, it stands out from lesser Sportback Audi A5 and S5, thanks to more aggressive styling at the front end. Under the hood, it stands out with lots of extra punch from the twin-turbo V6 out of the Porsche Panamera 4S.
The RS 5 Sportback’s V6 is a 2.9-liter unit with 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which Audi claims will get the RS 5 Sportback to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. This is thanks in large part to the company’s famous quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, but an available Dynamic Plus package allows for a 174-mph top speed. That same Dynamic Plus package also adds carbon-ceramic front brakes. The Dynamic (non-Plus) package adds sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control and a sport exhaust. All RS 5 Sportbacks come with adaptive dampers, and the AWD system can put more power to the rear than normal in certain situations for more of a rear-drive feel. The RS 5 Sportback also returns 17 mpg city, 26 highway, and 20 combined with premium fuel.
On the inside, the RS 5 Sportback gets 21.8 cubic feet of rear storage space that expand to 35 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Sportback features the usual mix of sporty touches and high-end luxury, including a flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, well-bolstered seats, and an 8.3-inch infotainment screen that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Nappa leather upholstery and an upgraded stereo by Bang & Olufsen are among the more tempting extras. The RS 5 Sportback is also available with automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a head-up display (HUD), and self-parking assist.
The Audi RS 5 was already a usable, livable luxury car that could also enjoy a double life as a high-performance coupe capable of running with more focused sports cars, but the new Sportback adds practicality to the lineup while sacrificing very little speed.

This is my first ever audi. The balance that this car gives is incredible. The ride quality is amazing not as stiff as I thought it would be for an RS model. The car will get super stiff and get you through those spirited turns. Overall super please with my RS 5.

I have owned this car now for 3 years and it has never disappointed. Faster than the Audi claimed 3.7 0-60 (dragy 3.4) time, handles very well for a larger car, has all the tech you would need and practical to boot. This car munches up highway miles with aplomb and then when home you can go to Lowes and fit 15 bags of mulch in the back no problem. Interior aesthetics, comfort and fit/finish are well above competitors also. This car is an outstanding alternative to a small to midsize SUV!

A baby rs7 with with guts. Its the sexiest vehicle on the road. It turns heads everywhere I go--grocery shopping, picking up kids from school, or soccer practice. The compliments cant stop pouring in. Color: white with black optic carbon fibre package. If you think the 15k differential between the RS5 and S5 is not worth it, youll regret not buying the RS5. The 444hp motor is no slouch: its 3.7 sec from 0-60! No matter the condition. But thats not the main reason I bought this car: practicality and gravitas. No other car/ hatch looks better. Period.

How much does the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $40,825 |
| Year-Round Low | $40,488.98 |
| Year-Round High | $45,494.66 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,306 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.73% |
Prices have softened 5.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 71 listings available, you have a modest amount of inventory to compare across the market.
If you find a listing below $40,488.98, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback a good car?
Yes — owners give it 5/5, which points to very strong satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights impressive performance, quick acceleration and handling, and practicality for a larger car. You also see repeated praise for the interior quality and comfort, which suggests this model year delivers both excitement and everyday usability.
With 23.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a car that feels reliable and dependable in daily use, with praise for a trouble-free ownership experience and confidence in its long-term appeal. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it as a used performance car if it has been maintained well.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying for a neglected example, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback?
At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified.
Focus your condition check on bodywork, panel alignment, interior wear, and signs that the car has been repaired after an accident.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without rushing into the first listing you see.
- Deal availability: 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 71 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.73% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,488.98, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback's resale value?
The current average of $40,825 sits slightly below last year's $43,306.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on how well the car is kept and how clean its history is.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.73% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want this body style and value strong owner satisfaction, the 2019 is a solid primary choice, especially because prices have eased and there are still enough listings to compare. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can keep shopping for the cleanest, best-priced example rather than settling for the first one you see.
