The Audi A5 lineup, consisting of Coupe Cabriolet versions, received a redesign for 2018. Audi kicks off the 2019 model year with new styling options and feature menu updates for the A5, making this stylish and sporty lineup even more desirable.

The A5 offers an athletic and graceful design, with a low stance, dramatic body lines, and a wide grille flanked by xenon headlights and LED daytime-running lights. New 18- and 20-inch wheel designs are available this year, and the newly available Black Optic package adds black mirror housings, black side-sill blades, and black rear lip spoiler.

The A5 boasts 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter TFSI 4-cylinder engine, which comes matched to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD), courtesy of Audi’s Quattro system, comes standard. Models equipped with the automatic transmission are EPA-rated for 23 mpg city, 34 highway, and 27 combined.

The A5’s three trim levels include Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Inside, standard features include 8-way power front seats, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, LED ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. For 2019, the virtual cockpit with customizable display becomes standard. The Premium Plus and Prestige trims add heated front seats and a hands-free trunk, while the Black Optic package adds a sport steering wheel, piano black trim, and blue contrast stitching. Options include a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and front sport seats.

This year, Audi makes the upgraded version of its MMI infotainment system standard in all A5 trims. This system features an 8.3-inch display, a touchpad with handwriting recognition, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation. A 10-speaker audio system also comes standard. Upgrades include a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and the Audi Connect telematics system with services such as automatic crash notification and stolen-vehicle tracking.

The A5 also includes a ton of high-tech safety equipment. Audi Pre-Sense Basic, which preps the vehicle and its occupants for an imminent collision, and Pre-Sense City, which includes pedestrian detection, both come standard. Options include rear cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, a head-up display (HUD), active lane assist, and park assist. The 2018 Audi A5 Coupe was both awarded a 2017 Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Audi A5 is one of the most well-rounded midsize luxury cars on the market, competing against the BMW 2 Series and newer options like the Genesis G70. If the A5 has a significant drawback, it simply could be that there are too many good choices.
