About 2017 BMW X6 M
Overview

Looking for the ultimate combination of performance and utility? BMW hopes you'll take a look at its 2017 X6 M. Based on the popular X6, the X6 M takes BMW's wild marriage of SUV and performance coupe and dials it up a notch.
With its long, sloping roofline, the X6 M exudes the attitude of a performance coupe, but its 8.1 inches of ground clearance scream "SUV." Inside, you'll find seating for 5 and 26.6 cubic feet of cargo space (59.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down), further perpetuating the image of the X6 M as an SUV.
Turn the key over and you'll lose all doubts of the car's status as a performance machine. Once you start the car, it'll be impossible not to be enthralled by the throaty roar of the its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter 567-hp 8-cylinder engine. If you're looking for fuel economy, the X6 M is probably not your ride—it should return approximately 14 mpg city/19 highway/16 combined. While the environmentally conscious may not be big fans of the X6 M, power lovers will be. The X6 M will be capable of hitting 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and should top out at 160 mph: seriously impressive for a car that can tote around almost 60 cubic feet of cargo.
For 2017, the X6 M will again be offered with no trim choices and all examples will sport both an 8-speed automatic transmission and an M-tuned xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system.
Beyond its impressive performance abilities, the X6 M will also be an extremely luxurious ride. Standard fare includes Merino leather upholstery, heated front seats, 18-way power-adjustable M front seats, M Drive with M Dynamic Mode, xenon headlights, power-folding and heated mirrors, push-button start, automatic 4-zone climate control, a power moonroof, a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear park-distance control, ambience lighting, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, BMW's iDrive infotainment system with BMW Apps, navigation with a 10.2-inch color display, a backup camera, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
While the X6 M offers serious luxury standard, BMW knows buyers will want to customize their Ultimate Driving Machines. While not offering quite as much opportunity for customization as other BMW models, the X6 M does not disappoint. Two equipment packages will be available—Driver Assistance Plus and the Executive Package. Opt for Driver Assistance Plus and you'll get an active driving assistant, active blind-spot detection, a surround-view camera, and speed-limit info. Choose the Executive Package and you'll load up your X6 M with LED lights, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, automatic high beams, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. To further customize your X6 M, BMW will also offer a few standalone options. These include night vision, a parking assistant (which searches for an open parking spot and parks the car automatically), smartphone integration, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and rear-seat entertainment, which installs a pair of 9.2-inch color displays in the backs of the front seats.
In addition to all the luxury, BMW will also add a fair amount to make sure the X6 M handles well in the curves. The backbone of this is the car's M chassis and suspension, which link's with its M-tuned electric power steering to give you the feeling you're low down in a performance coupe as you tackle the twisties.
BMW hasn't forgotten about safety, either. Inside the X6 M you'll find dynamic stability control, hill-descent control, dynamic traction control, dynamic performance control with active roll stabilization, adaptive brakelights, a front and rear head protection system with front side-impact airbags, a rollover sensor, and a front airbag supplemental restraint system.
We expect the 2017 X6 M to come in just over the $103,000 mark (when destination and handling fees are included). While that's a lot of money, the X6 M is a seriously impressive car and could be a great choice for those who can both afford it and desire the unique combination of performance, luxury, and utility it offers.
