Since the 2007 model year, there have been two generations of the Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG 63. The C219 generation lasted from 2007 to 2011, with a facelift in 2009, while the C218 generation offered an AMG 63 between 2012 and 2018, with a facelift in 2015. The initial CLS AMG 63 replaced the CLS 55 AMG with a new 6.2-liter V8, churning out 507 hp and transmitting it through a seven-speed AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The second generation CLS AMG 63 downsized the engine to 5.5-liters, but dialed up performance by twin turbocharging it. Depending on the trim level and option packages, the power could range from 518 hp to 577 hp. These cars were also equipped with an updated AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic. The second generation car was available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4MATIC all-wheel drive (AWD).
