Overview

Audi, as usual, delivers a major dose of power along with a classy look with its 2011 S6. How does 435 horsepower sound? Well, it growls, as a matter of fact. The new car's 5.2-liter V10, thanks to Audi’s Lamborghini connections, puts out those 435 horses, and they provide the S6 with 398 pound-feet of torque between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. Audi says the S6 does 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission that can be operated manually come standard. The S6 gets a gas mileage rating of 14 city/19 highway mpg.
The S6 features a more sporty suspension, lower profile and 19-inch cast aluminum wheels as a rarin’-to-go relative of Audi’s A6 sedan. Eighteen-inch wheels are an option. Experts note that it not only performs well - the quattro system draws high marks for its road-gripping abilities - but offers a smooth ride, fitting for a luxury vehicle, as well. A row of LED running lights up front, especially helpful in the snow, make the S6 stand out from the A6, too. The 2011 Audi S6 also has an aluminum hood and fenders.
Audi and the S6 have long sported interiors that match the exterior and high-end performance of the car, and this version is no exception. It offers standard 12-way powered leather sport seats, a sunroof, 6-CD Bose stereo with full USB and iPod capability, color trip computer and a navigation system, among numerous highlights. In 2010, rear seats joined the team and got heat, giving folks in the back a perk that those up front enjoy.
Audi prides itself on its technology and loads the S6 with the latest available. For example, Audi’s blind side assist program monitors fast-approaching vehicles and the car’s blind spots and keeps the driver informed via lights in the exterior mirror. The vehicle can be unlocked and started without removing the key from a pocketbook or purse thanks to Audi’s advanced key system. Rain and light sensors automatically activate wipers and lights.
Technology also puts a cap on things: The S6 is electronically limited to 155 miles per hour.
The S6, like other Audis, scores well in safety tests. A four-wheel antilock brake setup with electronic brakeforce distribution and an electronic stabilization program, along with a full complement of front and side airbags, help keep its safety ratings high. The S6’s navigation system includes a rear-view camera and 3D topography that includes buildings in many cities.
All of the above does not come cheap. The Audi S6 is for those shopping in the $75,000-$80,000 range. That’s lot of money, to be sure, but the S6 is a lot of car, too.
