About 2009 Nissan Armada
Essentially unchanged for 2009, the full-size 2009 Nissan Armada SUV continues to compete with the American big boys. Its 5.6-liter DOHC V8 delivers 317 hp with 385 ft-lbs of torque at a low 3,400 RPM, with a towing capacity of up to 9,000 pounds. The standard 5-speed automatic transmission comes with a tow/haul mode. Unfortunately, all that power means less-than-thrilling 12/18 mpg city/highway fuel economy. Both the base SE and more-luxurious LE trims are offered in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with the option to add an Off-Road package with all-terrain tires and skid plates. The 2009 Armada seats up to eight passengers in three rows, with a plentiful 41 inches of legroom in the first and second rows. The second row splits 40/20/40, while the third splits 60/40. With both rows flat, the 20-cubic-foot cargo area expands to 97 cubic feet. Optional second-row captain's chairs are available, as is a power-folding third row. Second-row passengers get their own controls for climate and audio. The cargo area features an organizer, net, and tie-downs, and its rear window opens separately from the liftgate for multiple points of access. Roof rails are also standard. Both trims feature 4-wheel ABS brakes, traction and stability control, side impact door beams, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for all rows. The SE starts with 18-inch wheels, while the LE gets 20-inch ones. Power features include an 8-way power driver's seat, remote entry, cruise control, and a 6-CD player with MP3 input. The LE boosts luxury in this "utility" vehicle by adding leather seats, a rearview camera, satellite radio, and wood trim. Available options include heated seats and mirrors and a navigation system with real-time traffic updates. The 2009 Armada should continue to impress drivers with its solid safety record, interior room, and durability. Whether SUVs themselves will continue to gain customers in this high-priced fuel era is another question altogether.
