Overview
Billed as Pontiac's first SUV (though Aztek owners might argue this point), the Pontiac Torrent is actually a crossover wagon and enters its second year on the market in 2007. Most of its changes focus on safety features and a few extra options in this already well-equipped compact sport utility vehicle.
The 2007 Torrent is available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive, depending on what you need the SUV for. Both models come with a 3.4-liter, 185-hp V6 and 5-speed auto transmission only.
Pontiac is trying to build up its performance branding image once again, and has given the Torrent a sports suspension and unibody design, to make it handle more like a car than an unwieldy SUV. Standard features include ABS brakes, fog lights, skid plates, power locks and windows, keyless entry, a roof rack, and air conditioning. New in 2007 is a standard Stabilitrak system, tire pressure gauge, an updated alarm, and a rollover sensor. In addition to heated leather seats, power adjustable seats, and steering wheel controls, added options for 2007 include a driver information center and remote start (great for winter temperatures).
The 2007 Torrent only has two rows of seats, but this means it has ample leg and headroom, even in the rear. Cargo capacity reaches up to 72.5 cubic feet when the rear seats fold, and the front passenger seat also folds to fit longer objects. Many owners love that the rear seats can move forward or back, adjusting for more legroom or more cargo space, and they also recline, ensuring a comfortable ride for passengers.
2007 Torrent owners appreciate its versatility (lots of compartments in the cargo hold), good gas mileage (18/25 mpg), and car-like sporty handling. Overall comfort and elbow room is superior to comparable compact SUVs. They also like the exterior styling that distinguishes it from its competitors. The biggest complaint was a desire for more engine power and acceleration response. Some also mentioned rattling.

I like it because it handles better than my old suv. I'm glad that we purchased it as a family car, it comes in handy during winter months. It also gets good gas mileage as well which is a plus in our book.

The price was great and the Torrent is very pleasing to the eye. I love the how roomy it is from front to back. The electronic steering was hard to get used to at first because it is so touchy. But, I am used to it and love the smoothness.

The car handles very well. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee before this one, and I thought it handled like a rowboat in a storm. I really like driving this one, handles very well, smooth comfortable ride. Gas mileage is ok for it's size. Back seats adjust and are comfortable with plenty of legroom. Plenty of cargo room.

Although some little plastic clips, etc have already broken (sunvisor mirror clips) they were fixed under warranty - this car is structurally sound, and my insurance dropped tremendously when I bought it because of the Torrent's safty ratings.
