In its second year as the full-size sedan replacement for the popular LeSabre, the 2007 Buick Lucerne made few changes, aside from a new grille. The base model CX sedan features a 3.8-liter, 197-hp V6 engine. The luxury CXL comes with either the V6 or the new and much more robust 4.6-liter, 275-hp V8. The top-end sporty CXS comes only with the V8. All engines are paired with a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The 2007 Lucerne aims to compete with the well-known luxury brands of Lexus and Mercedes. It certainly comes with plenty of standard features, such as ABS brakes, air conditioning, power seats, windows, and locks, and leather upholstery on all but the base model. Magnetic ride control is combined with Stabilitrak for sturdier and more precise handling on the road. Reinforced steel parts and extra insulation have been added to help reduce road noise. Some nice options include leather trim, a navigation system, and seats that can be heated or cooled. Despite these efforts, the Lucerne looks vaguely like an old Buick, and its performance on the road isn't particularly noteworthy. Most owners of the 2007 Buick Lucerne seem to love its quiet and comfortable ride. The interior is spacious for five (six with an optional front bench seat) and the V8's power is definitely a big plus, taking the guesswork out of acceleration or merging. All agree it is comfortable for long trips. Complaints focus on poor gas mileage, bland styling inside and out, a tendency to shudder, and the need for an updated transmission.
