Overview
The 2006 Ford Ranger received primarily positive reviews from its owners. They love the inexpensive price and fuel efficiency. Some complained about the "cheap" looking dash and interior, but noted that it was worth not paying the extra money for a slightly nicer looking truck.
The regular cab proved more popular than the extended, as the rear seat in the larger truck was very uncomfortable to sit in and near impossible to climb in to and out of. The largest engine is a 3.0-liter V6 rated at 148 horsepower, while the peppy 2.3-liter I4 rated at 143 horsepower is the base. The I4 gets great fuel efficiency ast 24 city/29 highway. The V6 lags behind in this area at only 18 city/23 highway.

I love my Ranger, the 3.0L plus the 5 speed is great on gas, it takes heavy loads like a champ, Been driving it more then a year and a half and I can't stop loving to drive it, it's comfy on road trips, and other then the pineon seal the maintenance has been simple! This truck is great and for anyone looking for a no b**s**t mid-size the ranger is the way to go!

Pretty much bad ass; The Red Baron is quick, handles good for a truck, havent had to repair anything or replace anything besides normal maintenance, looks sexy, fun as hell to drive, has a fancy, yet conservative, interior, and sounds like a hauss with dual 40 series out the back. Only downside is she doesnt get great gas mileage, but that could be the way that I drive, who knows?

This is the first small truck I have owned. I did allot of research on small trucks, and found the Ranger to be the most trouble free. It has a dated design, but , all the "bugs" are worked out of it. This truck I got has the 3.0L engine, it has good power and great fuel economy. The 4.0L engine does have more power, but , fuel economy approaches V-8 territory. The 4 door extended cab does come in handy and the ride of an extended cab is much better then the regular cab. Combined city and highway mileage is good, I get over 20 mpg. My old truck was around 14mpg , so it is a vast improvement. The truck rides well and is quiet. No squeaks or rattles, even with it being purchased used and having 55000km. ( the truck now has 147000km and still drives fine) This truck handles well on the highway, and in the city. I have no complaints with this vehicle, except it is a little under powered when you need to pass some one( the 4.0L would work better here) The transmission is a 5 speed auto and it seems to shift fine. Brakes work well and anti lock performs when needed. Despite being 2 wheel drive , the truck works fine in winter conditions. We added a cap on the back and it seems to help with snow traction ( added weight)

The Ford Ranger 2006 FX4 truck with the 4WD package is one of the best compact trucks that a backroad adventurer could own Ample ground clearance and protective skid plates makes the stock four wheeling ranger one of the best money can buy truck Highly maneuverable for tight back road switch backs and operating on narrow shelf roads make this truck very desirable for its list price and surprising how much cargo this little unit can carry for its GVW I would give this 2006 Ford Ranger a 4/5 stars and would recommended it too anyone wanting a dependable 4WD that they can just hope in and let the adventure begin
