Overview

The GMC Canyon focused on bells and whistles in 2005. The midsize pickup now offered a sunroof, leather seats in the Extended Cab trims, and the ability to play mp3's in the audio system. Otherwise, you won't find too many differences from the '04 GMC Canyon. The 2005 Canyon offers 24 trims and enables you to choose between 2 standard engines: a 2.8 L, 175 hp I4 powertrain or a 3.5 L, 220 hp I5 with either 4 speed automatic or 5 speed manual transmission, depending on the trim.
On average, expect to get 19 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. Standard Cab trims have 2 doors and seat 3 while Extended and Crew Cab trims have 4 doors and seat 5-6. As for towing capacity, you'll have the power to tow anywhere from 1500 to 4000 lbs. on average, depending which trim you choose.
Overall, the 2005 GMC Canyon presents a mixed bag to prospective buyers. While you get good gas mileage and an easy-to-use instrument panel, you also don't have a V6 or V8 engine to boost overall power and towing capacity. In addition, the interior design and materials could use some work. Consumers in the market for a pickup truck who don't need the horsepower or pizzazz of the Canyon's counterparts will still appreciate this overall solid domestic vehicle.

I think its a great little truck all around. I did alot of research & test drives for months before deciding to buy it. And Im thrilled with the comfort power & looks of it. I have a full size truck but wanted to compliment it with a smaller & economical quick get around version.

All around good truck if you need to haul small things or pull a smaller trailer. Not a lot of passenger room which is why i recommended for a single person or family with no children. Moderate off road capabilities but never had trouble in inclement weather.

Crew cab is great, this is the perfect size truck for what I need. Full size is too big and I don't haul anything, but I like to take my wife and kid camping or throw junk in the bed doing house work, etc. Always good to have a truck around but I'd hate to park a behemoth. I get 22-24 mpg on the freeway. I have had 6 different light bulbs go out in the last 4 years. Weird but all were covered by warranty. And the turn signal, engine, and horn sound funny.

Great mileage, and has given me no problems. The engine doesn't have as much torque as many would like. The limited slip diff will lock both rear wheels , which helps alot in the snow or ice. The seats are comfy, but anyone in the back seats will be uncomfortable.
