About 2004 Chrysler Town & Country
The 2004 model year brought a few significant changes to the Town & Country lineup. The LXi and eL models have been discontinued, but new style debut this year. The lowest priced model is now the "Family Value" shorter wheelbase STD, followed by the modestly equipped LX. The front-wheel drive only EX is the third tier, offering a more comprehensive equipment list and the 3.8 liter V-6. The LXi has been replaced by the Touring trim, which is offered with FWD or AWD. The two Limited models return as well. Chrysler also offered a limited edition Platinum Series, which could be applied to the Touring model. Chrysler has updated the audio and video components, and a tire pressure monitor has been added to all models. Several other updates, including the availability of "Stow N Go" seating would arrive in the following year. Two Town & Country variations (STD and LX) will be powered by the smaller 3.3 liter OHV V-6. The Flex Fuel engine delivers 180 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. All other models use the 3.8 liter OHV, 12-Valve V-6, which generates 215 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy for both engines is estimated at 18/25 mpg. Comfort and convenience features top the list of favorite Town & Country attributes. Owners express great satisfaction with the power sliding doors, three-zone climate control, power accessories, the CD changer and the garage door opener. Shoppers should be cautioned that these items are not available on all trims. Several Chrysler models have been subject to reliability and build quality issues for some time. Another caveat with Chrysler is that the well-appointed Town & Country is laden with advanced technology and gadgets. Unfortunately, given the history of the American automaker, these features simply provide more opportunities for frustrating electrical and mechanical problems to occur.
