Overview

The 1999 Grand Caravan got a minor facelift on its front end, with a body-colored grille. Inside, a cargo net between the front seats added yet another storage option. In 1999, the ES trims were the first minivan to feature the new AutoStick transmission auto/manual transmission and 17-inch wheels. Also new for the ES in 1999 was a Sports package, previously only offered with the SE trim. It featured a redesigned honeycomb grills, foglights, and a rear spoiler.
For a minivan, the Grand Caravan had pretty good pickup, definitely necessary for hauling big loads or seven heavy passengers. The Grand Caravan SE, and LE models came standard with the 3.3-liter, 158-hp V6 engine, while the ES came with the 3.8-liter, 180-hp V6. All AWD models featured the 3.8 V6.
The Grand Caravan claims to offer the most interior space of any minivan or SUV in its class, and at 18/24 mpg, it also gets better gas mileage than SUVs. Plenty of legroom for seven, easy roll-out seats, and the convenient sliding doors on both sides of the van are highly touted by drivers. Dodge's repair history is the single consistent sore spot on the Grand Caravan's record.

Excellent van that accelerates well and handles perfectly. It's a dependable vehicle and a nice quiet ride. Cleaned and shined this is a beautiful van but like any van, it requires due diligence to keep it looking good. The seats come out easily making it easy to keep up. Gas mileage is anywhere from 18 to 23 depending on how well it's tuned. If the mileage decreases, it might be time for new plugs. All in all, the 99 is a good year for this model.

I did like that the Sport edition came with a 3.8 V6 and it made the van pretty quick, even for a minivan, and luckily enough the transmission never quit, it's usually the first thing to go. It wasn't the funniest thing to drive but then again it was a minivan and it surved it's purpose

This van is comfortable and reliable, have had some issues with the suspension, especially the shocks and linkage, including the tie end rods and strut tower upper mount. Found that this defect is common for the Dodge and Chrysler vans. Overall if you stay on top of these issues this van will last forever....

3.8 V6 had a great sound to it. With the pedal down, the power just isn't there. GVWR is over 8,000 lbs so it's hard to get this thing to accelerate. Lots of body roll, but AWD keeps everything composed in any terrain/condition. Brakes aren't as touchy as most vans I've drove but worked good. I had fun driving this van. Top speed only limited by drag...got it to 105 mph. Typical surface rust on lower edges of vehicle and undercarriage. Love the visibility with the short hood and huge windows all around. Interior styling is minimal but very practical. Exterior styling seems very bland. I don't like the appearance of vans in general, but the 1999 Plymouth Voyager front fascia was much better than the Dodge or Chrysler ones IMO.
