The 1997 Toyota Avalon saw a few changes from the previous year. The engine got a small boost in power, and the antenna went from a typical antenna to an in-glass one. Some more options were offered with the higher-end trim, including heated side mirrors.
The 1997 Toyota Avalon comes in two trim levels, the XL and the more luxurious XLS. Both trims come standard with a 3.0-liter, 200 horsepower V6 engine. The XL is nicely equipped, including an AM/FM/cassette sound system and cruise control. The XLS includes a few more niceties, like an upgraded sound system, alloy wheels, and a theft-deterrent system. The XLS also comes with option of front bucket seats or a three-passenger bench seat. Even though the XL doesn't have the better sound system and the security system its still and extremely nice car.

I love this car. It's very reliable, had personality and is a nice place to be on long drives. It has plenty of power for overtaking and merging, or just when you're late to work. It has a velvety smooth transmission and the ride is as expected from a 90's Toyota Flagship Car. The exterior is kind of boring, but has been upgraded with a spoiler, chromed window pillars and white LEDs.

Awesome car for college. Has never broken down, great gas mileage. Very reliable. New tune up (see description). One owner before me. All power seats, windows, tape players, etc work great. Cheap insurance, maintenance, etc. This was the car we used to go on road trips in college due to great gas mileage and good inside and trunk space!

Plenty of interior room for friends and stuff. Horrible factory sound system. Power and handling are decent. Due to the soccer mom looks of the car the cops leave me alone! Typical Toyota quality, change the oil and go! Gas mileage is also pretty good.
