Awesome car. The 95-97 SL was at the forefron in it's time. A truly enjoyable car to drive and own, regardless of the cost of ownership (whish is still cheaper than a porsche, dancing horse, etc.) I intend to own this vehicle until I see what's on the other side...

The acceleration in this car is brutal. My sister was driving my vette and I in the benz and we dusted her! The build quality is typical mercedes BEFORE daimler-chrysler. Pure Daimler-Benz build quality. The exterior appearence is absolutely timeless and beautiful. It was often asked if it was a 2002. Gas mileage was pretty stellar for a 5.0 322hp v8. Repairs on the other hand were typical Daimler-Benz price. 1200 for a convertible top locking cylinder. 1400 for a intake gasket, 1100 for an alternator. But that's about it. It ran like silk and turned heads with the 18'' chrome amg monoblocks. out of 10 for driving and all around feeling this car gives you. I give it an 11.

The acceleration of this car is solid and linear. I also owned a 1989 corvette and in a race the mercedes owned the vette. I've driven the car up to 145MPH and it was just as stable at 145 as it was at 90. With the hardtop off there was a fair amount of wind noise. Put the hard top on and it transforms the car into a quiet and bank vault like GT. The looks are timeless. I was always asked what year it was and when I told them it was a 1996 they always replied NO WAY! I thought it was a 2002!!! The accentric sweep one windshiled wiper is a cool touch. (I'm easily ammused). Push the red button on the middle console and the top unlatches it's self, the rear window raises up. A hard tonneau cover flips up over the rear trunk and the top disappears down into the car. Depress another button on the dashboard and a rollbar deploys it's self for an added sporty look and safety. I would buy this car again in a HEARTBEAT!
